Who is Dina Shihabi?

Saudi Arabian actress Dina Shihabi was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 21 September 1989, meaning that Virgo’s her zodiac sign. She’s appeared in 26 movies and TV series, and is probably known best for portraying Hanin in the action thriller series “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”, which Carlton Cuse created, and which starred John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce and Michael Kelly; it follows the life of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, and the series won two of its 31 award nominations.

Education and early life

Dina and her brother Omar Ali Shihabi were raised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Beirut, Lebanon by their half-German half-Palestinian mother Nadia, and half-Norwegian half-Saudi father Ali Shihabi who’s a politics commentator, former banker, and former chairman of the Saudi Hollandi Bank.

Dina became interested in both dancing and acting at an early age, and was 11 when she began taking dancing lessons from famous dance teacher Sharmilla Kamte. She attended Al Mawakeb School in Dubai prior to progressing to Emirates International School, and eventually switching to Dubai American Academy.

Dina matriculated in 2008, and then moved to New York City wanting to pursue acting; she spent two years studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, then enrolled at the prestigious New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, from which she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2014.

Roles in movies

Dina’s debut film role was playing Sylvia in the 2010 short comedy “Rx”, and the year 2011 saw her play Aishah in the family drama “David”, directed by Patrick Daly and Joel Fendelman, and which starred Taoufik Abid, Dab Ahmar and Amer Almaaly; it follows an 11 years old Muslim boy who’s hiding his Muslim identity while growing up in New York City, and the movie won three of its four award nominations.

Some of Dina’s following roles were in the 2013 short drama “Ben”, and in 2014 the romantic comedy “Amira & Sam” and the short drama “Post-Emma”. In 2016, she portrayed Shopgirl in the drama “Good Funk”, written and directed by Adam Kritzer, and which starred Sameerah Luqmaan-Harris, William Nadylam and Kalae Noueveau. It follows three generations of citizens living in a neighborhood on the verge of gentrification.

Also in 2016, Dina starred as Jess in the short mystery “Cul-de-Sac”, and the following year saw her appear in both the musical comedy “Cherry Pop” and the war action “Cigarette Soup”.

In 2021, she played Beatrice in the short drama “Cinephile”, and the same year saw her portray Milk in the short drama “Chicken”, written and directed by Rana Roy, and in which Dina starred alongside Keshav Moodliar. It follows Milk and Tea who’ve just married, while their wedding night is also their first date.

Two of Dina’s most recent film roles have been in 2022, in the music video “Red Hot Chili Peppers: These Are the Ways”, and the drama “MVP”. She’s currently shooting for the upcoming movies “Catching Dust” and “Pal”.

Dina’s debut TV series role was playing Audience girl in the 2010 episode “Rules for a Talk Show” of the comedy “Mumbai Chopra: Misadventures of an It Girl”, and her following role was playing Prima Nition in the 2015 episode “The Missing Sapphire” of the short comedy “Burt Paxton”.

In 2016, she portrayed Hijriyyah in the popular thriller drama “Madam Secretary”, which Barbara Hall created, and which starred Erich Bergen, Tim Daly and Tea Leoni. It follows the life of the Secretary of State, the series aired from 2014 through 2019, and won two of its nine award nominations.

The year 2017 saw Dina play Iram in four episodes of the comedy “BKPI”, and in 2018, she portrayed Neda Kazemi in the critically acclaimed crime action “Daredevil”, which Drew Goddard created, and which starred Deborah Ann Woll, Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox. It follows a blind attorney who becomes the vigilante Daredevil at night, the series aired from 2015 through 2018 and won nine of its 57 award nominations.

Dina’s three most recent TV series roles have been in eight episodes of the 2020 action science fiction “Altered Carbon”, two episodes of the 2021 horror science fiction thriller “Agent Stoker” and eight episodes of the 2022 horror mystery “Archive 81”; she’s currently shooting for the upcoming series “Painkiller”.

Dina produced the 2021 short drama movie “Chicken”.
