Carol was born into a family of mixed origin – from her mother’s side English, Scottish, Welsh and German decent, and from her father’s side Irish. When she was still a child, Carol started a career as a child model, and was known as Carolyn Lee. At the age of 15, she discovered that her name was already taken by another actress so she modified it into Lynley. In 1957, Walt Disney saw her photo on the cover of “LIFE” magazine, and decided to cast her in “The Light in the Forest” (1958), Lynley’s debut as she received credits in the opening titles and starred next to James MacArthur. She continued appearing in roles on the Broadway stage, soon followed by Hollywood screenings, in which she was noted for her acting in the controversial drama “Blue Denim” (1959). Although it was a demanding role of a teenage character who dealt with unwanted pregnancy and abortion, Carol portrayed the role very well and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the category of Most Promising Newcomer – Female.
