After the cancellation of the aforementioned series, she was offered roles in six television series, but declined to concentrate on her film career. In 2009, Friel lent her traits to the young and seductive student Holly Cantrell in the comedy adventure “Land of the Lost”, starring with Will Ferrell, however, the film was a real critical and commercial failure. In 2010, the actress starred with Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley in “London Boulevard” and with Bradley Cooper in “Limitless” (2011). She was also shot under the direction of Woody Allen in “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” (2011). Recently, she starred in the thriller film “I.T.” by John Moore.

Finally, in the personal life of the actress, Friel started dating the actor David Thewlis in 2001. The couple had a daughter, Gracie Ellen Mary Friel, born in 2005, but in December 2010, they decided to separate. From 2011 to 2014, she was partnered with actor Rhys Ifans, since when the actress has been single.
