Anil Kapoor was born on 24 December 1956, in Mumbai, Maharashtra India, and is a producer and actor, best known for his appearances in numerous Bollywood films. He’s also been a part of many international films and television series. He’s won numerous awards in his career and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

Anil is the son of film producer Surinder Kapoor. He studied at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, and after matriculating, went to St. Xavier’s College. During this time, one of his first film opportunities came when he was 15 years old – a part in “Tu Payal Mein Geet” in 1971. However the film wasn’t released into movie theatres.

His true film debut would come eight years later, appearing in a small role in the Hindi film “Hamare Tumhare”. Soon he would be given lead roles in films such as “Vamsa Vruksham”, “Who Saat Diin”, and “Pallavi Anu Pallavi”. He was starting to gain a significant amount of popularity in Bollywood thanks, to his performance in movies such as “Mashaal”; his performance would earn him his first Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actor and he continued producing great performances resulting in a Best Actor nomination for his role in “Meri Jung”. He then became part of hits including “Karma” and “Insaaf Ki Awaaz”, and then in the sci-fi “Mr. India” and was slowly getting to superstar status. In 1988, he won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in the film “Tezaab” which was very successful in the box office. His net worth was well established.

He went into the 1990s continuing his success from the previous decade with “Awaargi” which was critically acclaimed. He had a few flops but would then bounce back in ‘Lamhe” and “Beta” which earned him his second Filmfare Best Actor Award. The year 2000 saw Kapoor’s first National Film Award win in ‘Bulandi”, in which he played a double role. His streak of successful films was in full effect as seen in “Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai”, and “Nayak” which proved to be a success in terms of both his acting and the box office. He had a great performance in “The Nutty Professor”-based film “Badhaai Ho Badhaai”, and one of his best performances came in “Calcutta Mail”, before he appeared in “My Wife’s Murder” and “No Entry”. In 2008, he starred in his first English film “Slumdog Millionaire” which won numerous international awards and gained very positive reviews, plus taking more than $352 million worldwide; Kapoor was present for most of the award ceremonies.

His appearances in international projects would continue as he would then be cast in the eighth season of “24” as Omar Hassan, and then became the villain of “Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol”. He was even invited for a segment at the Toronto International Film Festival, one that’s reserved for actors who have had very successful careers.

Aside from acting, Anil has engaged in production work, with one of his most recent projects being a remake of the series “24” for Indian television. He also sings, and has contributed to various soundtracks of the films he’s been a part of.

For his personal life, it is known that Kapoor married costume designer Sunita Bhavnani in 1984, and they have three children, two of whom have careers in film.
