Alexey Miller was born on 31 January 1962, in Leningrad (now St Petersburg) Russia, into a family of Jewish-German ancestry, and is well-known as the CEO of Gazprom, Russia’s largest company and the world’s biggest natural gas producer, a position he has held since being appointed in 2001 by President Putin. Miller’s position has seen him ranked by Forbes magazine as the 47th most powerful person in the world in 2015.

So just how rich is Alexey Miller? Officially Miller’s net worth is put at $5.3 million, however, his salary from Gazprom is very likely to be more than that amount per year – Igor Sechin, CEO and Chairman of Rosneft, has admitted to an $11.6 million basic salary – so his real wealth could very well be in the billions of dollars.

Alexey Miller Net Worth $5.3 Million

Alexey Miller finally graduated with a PhD in Economics from Voznesensky Leningrad Finance and Economics Institute in 1989. Miller’s first worked as an engineer-economist in the general planning division of the Leningrad research institute of civil construction ‘LenNIIProek’.

From 1991 to 1996 Alexey Miller was on the Committee for External Relations of the Saint Petersburg Mayor’s Office under future Russian President Vladimir Putin From 1996 to 1999 he was Director for Development and Investments of the Port of Saint Petersburg, and then briefly from 1999 to 2000 he served as Director General of the Baltic Pipeline System. In 2000 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, and since 2001 he has served as Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom, effectively the CEO. Miller’s latter, and current, position would normally be viewed as an incredible rise and promotion, considering that his experience of even working directly in a resource company is very limited, let alone in anything approaching an executive position – but not in Russia.

Some idea of the importance of Miller’s position can be gauged from the fact that Gazprom was a very large company when Alexey Miller assumed the CEO position, but as of 2015, Gazprom has become the largest company in Russia, and the world’s largest natural gas extractor. It is a public-private company held partly by the Russian government, and many of the company’s employees also hold government positions. There is no doubt that, despite the ups and downs associated with a resource company, Gazprom’s financial position has improved considerably during Alexey Miller’s period in control.

In 2005, Expert magazine, a generally respected Russian economics and financial weekly publication , nominated Miller, together with then Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Dmitry Medvedev – later Prime Minister as well as President – as ‘Person of the Year’.

Alexey Miller is one of a select few of President Putin’s inner circle, rising in importance with the President since their early days together in Leningrad. As mentioned, his personal financial position is open to speculation, as the salary – and therefore consolidated net worth – of himself and other persons in senior political and public company positions, is seldom opened to public scrutiny.

In his personal life, Alexey Miller is a private person, but is not, and apparently never has been married, and nor does he have any children.
