Growing up, Alexa had a lot of Billy Joel songs inspired by her. The song “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)” is for her and “The Downeaster Alexa” is named after a boat that was named after her. The song “Leningrad” also has references Alexa. Thanks to her father’s influence, she would start writing songs by the age of 15, and was also forming piano pieces. She also wrote poetry and focused on improving her melodies.

In 2005, Joel formed a band and would play in over 100 shows the following year; she also completed a Hard Rock Café tour in the same year. In August 2006, she released her six-song EP entitled “Sketches” which was independently distributed which included her version of Neil Young’s “Don’t Let It Bring You Down”, and she also designed the album cover. In 2007, Alexa would perform at various music festivals, and would then appear with her father during the 2008 Rainforest Foundation Fund. She continued to be part of various charity events in the next few years, including “Save Sag Harbor”, “Stage for the Cure” and an Art of Elysium benefit. She also performed at a Habitat for Humanity benefit and at “Right to Play Day” in 2010. Most activities contributed to her net worth.

Around the same time, she released her single “Invisible”, and would then release “Notice Me” which had good reviews, and marked her first song since signing with OCD Music Group/The Hang Productions. She’s also been very active in performing at New York Fashion events. Some of the events she was a part of include Manhattan’s “Fashion’s Night Out” in 2009, and Bloomingdale’s in 2011. She also performed during the launch of Bobbi Brown’s book “Pretty Powerful: Beauty Stories to Inspire Confidence”.

Aside from the above, she succeeded her mother who was a spokeswoman for Prell in 1986, becoming a spokeswoman for the Prell brand of shampoo, and her songs have been featured as the background of Prell commercials. One of her latest commercials was part of The Gap’s “Back to Blue” television campaign, singing her father’s song “Just the Way You Are” as part of the campaign. Her net worth benefited too.

For her personal life, there is no public information on any relationships, but it is known that Alexa had an incident with excessive intake of Traumeel in 2009 apparently after a break-up. She has talked about her issues with depression and moving away from the shadow of her parents in a “20/20” interview. She also had a nose job done in 2010 to correct a deviated septum on her nose.
