Who is Karen Fukuhara?
American actress Karen Fukuhara was born in Los Angeles, California USA, on 10 February 1992, making her zodiac sign Aquarius. She’s had roles in nearly 20 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for her playing of Kayda Izumi Concession Girl in the 2022 action thriller comedy movie “Bullet Train”, directed by David Leitch, and which starred Brad Pitt, Joey King and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. It follows several assassins who’ve boarded a bullet train, and are on a mission to kill the same person; the movie was nominated for a People’s Choice Award for The Movie of 2022.

Education and early life
Karen’s Japanese parents Hidemi and Katsumi Fukuhara raised her in Los Angeles alongside her younger brother; not a lot is known about her mother and father, because she respects their privacy, but the family spoke Japanese at home while she was growing up, and that was her first language. Karen went to Japanese language school once a week for 11 years, and also took karate lessons while growing up.
She began acting in school plays while attending a local high school in Los Angeles, and was also interested in dancing, singing and running track, and by the time she matriculated in 2010, Karen held a brown belt in karate.
She then enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and simultaneously worked for a sports program as a reporter; Karen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology in 2014, and then focused on acting.
Roles in movies
Karen’s debut film appearance was in the 2016 action adventure fantasy “Suicide Squad”, which David Ayer wrote and directed, and which starred Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Will Smith. It follows a group of villains as they’re trying to save the world from an apocalypse, and the film won 19 of its 59 award nominations, including an Oscar win for Best Achievement in Make-up and Hairstyling.
Karen went on to star as Laura Baker in the 2017 short thriller drama “The Lost”, and as Sewer Queen (voice role) in the 2017 short animated adventure “Craig of the Creek”.
The year 2019 saw her play the main character Nori in the action crime fantasy “Stray”, written and directed by Joe Sill, and which also starred Christine Woods and Miyavi; it follows an orphaned teenager and a detective, as they’re investigating the supernatural force which is threatening to kill the teenager and her family.

Roles in TV series
Karen’s debut TV series role was her voicing of one of the main characters, Glimmer, in 48 episodes of the animated action adventure “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power”, created by Nate Stevenson, and which also starred Aimee Carrero and Marcus Scribner. It follows She-Ra as she’s trying to free her lands from the Horde, the series aired from 2018 to 2020, and won one of its 11 award nominations.
Also since 2018, she’s been voicing Alexis and various other characters in the short animated adventure “Craig of the Creek”, which Ben Levin and Matt Burnett created, and which stars Noel Wells, Michael Croner and Philip Solomon. It follows Craig, Kelsey and JP as they’re exploring the wilderness, and the series has been nominated for seven awards.
In 2020, Karen voiced Kipo Oak in the animated action adventure “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts”, starring alongside Sydney Mikayla and Dee Bradley Baker, and she then voiced Elisa Maza in the 2021 episode “May Cause Light Cannibalism” of the short animated adventure “Robot Chicken”.
The year 2021 also heard Karen voice F in the episode “The Village Bride” of the animated action adventure “Star Wars: Visions”, and Reiko in the episode “Dingo, Baby, et Cetera” of the animated action comedy “Archer”.
Karen’s had only two other TV series roles: she’s been playing Kimiki Miyashiro in the action crime comedy “The Boys” since 2019, and voiced Tamami in the 2022 episode “He’s Playing Our Song” of the romantic comedy drama “Modern Love Tokyo”.
