Who is Justice Smith?
Justice Smith is an American actor, perhaps best known for his roles of Tim Goodman in “Pokémon Detective Pikachu”, a mystery film based on the famous Pokémon franchise, and as Franklin Webb in the 2018 sci-fi film “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”.
Early life
Justice Elio Smith was born on 9 August 1995, in Anaheim, California, USA, to Duilia Setacci and Wayne Smith. His father is African-American while his mother is of Italian and French-Canadian descent; both of his parents work in the entertainment business as singers, which inspired many of Justice’s siblings and himself, to pursue a career in entertainment. He grew up in a big family with eight siblings – one of his sisters, Cameo Adele, is making a name for herself in the music industry and even appeared in the 2021 mystery film “The Voyeurs” alongside Justice.
He was an introverted kid and liked to spend his free time reading and playing video games. His favorite book was “Matilda” by Roald Dahl, about a little girl with extraordinary powers which she uses to take revenge on the abusive people in her life. When it comes to video-games, Justice describes them as being his ‘safe space’, with “Dante’s Inferno”, a 2010 action-adventure game based on Dante’s “Divine Comedy”, resonating with him the most for its Biblical motif. His hobbies, and later acting, were a way for him to escape his harsh situation, being ‘Black and queer in a predominantly white environment’.
His time in Orange County School of the Arts wasn’t without its ups and downs. Justice believed that he was one of the rare kids who was actually interested in becoming an actor, unlike his other classmates. Throughout his childhood and the beginning stages of his career, his mom was incredibly supportive of his decision to pursue acting, and worked several jobs so that he could go to acting classes and auditions.

Career
During his teen years, Justice landed jobs in several commercials, including a shoot for Apple. He even received a part in a Nickelodeon comedy sketch show, but was fired right before the pilot. In 2014, Nickelodeon had a change of heart, and cast Justice for the role of Angus in two episodes of the comedy sketch show “The Thundermans”. His first big break was just a little ways down the road, when he landed the role of Marcus in the greatly successful 2015 romantic comedy film “Paper Towns”, starring Cara Delevingne and Nat Wolff. The following year he starred as Ezekiel ‘Books’ Figuero in the musical drama television series “Get Down”, which saw him placed on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list.
Justice continued being cast in major roles in films, such as Justin in the romantic drama “Every Day” in 2018, and in June the same year he portrayed Franklin Webb in the ever popular movie franchise “Jurassic World” – “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “Jurassic World: Dominion” later in 2022. The following year, Justice starred in “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu”, a live-action mystery film based on the incredibly popular video-game franchise “Pokémon”.
Then in 2020, he starred alongside Elle Fanning in the teen romantic film “All the Bright Places”, followed by a rather peculiar TV series – “Acting For a Cause” – in which various actors come together and do live readings of famous plays to raise funds for non-profit charities. Justice played Jack in Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest”, and Dennis Ziegler in Kenneth Lonergan’s “This is Our Youth”.

In 2021, Justice decided to give music a chance, by releasing his debut single “Bed”. Although he enjoyed writing songs in his free time, Justice never got into the music business, because growing up he didn’t get much support from his parents, who would often criticize his singing. This was until he met Giullian Yao Gioiello, an actor/producer who helped him get his voice out into the world. “Bed” is so far the only song he’s released, but since writing songs still remains one of his treasured hobbies, there’s a high chance that it won’t be the last.
Justice’s latest works include the leading role of Thomas in the 2021 mystery drama film “The Voyeurs”, and voicing Ryan Erzahler in the 2022 interactive drama horror video-game “The Quarry”. He has a couple of projects in the works as of late 2022, out of which the comedy thriller film “Sharper” is next in line to premiere. The rest include the films “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, and “I Saw the TV Glow”, which are currently in post-production.

In 2020, Justice Smith came out as queer. This came as a bit of a surprise to his fans, since most of them speculated that he was dating one of his film colleagues, such as Jaz Sinclair. The rumors were, of course, false and the fact was that he had started dating former actor Nicholas L. Ashe, famous for his role as Micah West in the television series “Queen Sugar”. There was a brief period in 2021 when the two split up, but after arriving together at the GQ Men of the Year event, it was clear that they’d decided to give their relationship another try. They are still together to this day.
Appearance and net worth
Justice Smith stands at 5ft 10ins (1.78m) and weighs around 150lbs (67kgs). His net worth is estimated to be around $1 million, as of late 2022.
