Gregory Mecher is an American politician who serves as a political aide in the Democratic party, but is possibly best known to the world as the husband of American political advisor Jen Psaki.

Gregory Matthew Mecher was born on 30 September 1976, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, the son of Michael Mecher who worked as a mechanical engineer in Hebron, Kentucky, and his wife Mary Ann who was a 4th-grade teacher. However, there’s no information on whether he has any siblings or not.

He went to Elder High School, after which he enrolled at Northern Kentucky University, and graduated in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and television production. However, he found a career in politics.

Career

While at University, Greg was a member of the Board of Regents as the student representative. During his tenure, he befriended Alice Sparks, who helped him get a spot in former Congressman Ken Lucas’ office, representative of Kentucky’s 4th district from 1999 to 2005; his internship at Ken Lucas’s office helped him jump-start his career. With excellent references, he was in search of employment on Capitol Hill.

After leaving Ken Lucas, he held various positions on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, ultimately reaching the Deputy National Finance Director position.

In 2009, he was recruited as the Chief of Staff for Representative Steve Driehaus. He served in the position until January 2011, and then in July 2011, he was named the White House Liaison at U.S. General Service Administration.

He was promoted to the Deputy Chief of Staff in September 2012, a position he held until January 2013, when he was recruited by Representative Joe Kennedy III from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a position Greg served in until 2021, which launched him to stardom.

Jennifer Rene Psaki was born on 1 December 1978, in Stamford, Connecticut, USA. The oldest of three daughters born to Eileen (nee Dolan), a psychotherapist, and Dimitrios’ James’ R. Psaki, a retired real estate developer. Of Greek and Polish ancestry, Jen went to Greenwich High School, from which she matriculated in 1996.

She enrolled at the College of William & Mary in a degree in English and sociology. During her university years, she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and of the swimming team, competing in backstroke for two years.

Jen launched her career in 2001 as a part of the Iowa Democrats Tom Harkin re-election campaign for the US. Senate and To Vilsack for governor. After this, she was named the deputy press secretary for John Kerry’s 2004 presidential campaign.

She was the communications director to US representative Joseph Crowley between 2005 and 2006, while also serving as the regional press secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

After this, she joined Barack Obama’s administration during his 2008 presidential campaign. A US Senator at the time, Jen was his traveling press secretary. Once he was named the US President, Jen joined the White House administration as deputy press secretary. However, on 19 December 2009, she was promoted to deputy communications director.

After almost two years in service, she left the White House, and assumed the position of senior vice president and managing director at the Washington, D.C. office of public relations firm Global Strategy Group.

However, she rejoined Obama in 2012 as a press secretary for his re-election campaign. In February of the following year, Jen was the spokesperson for the US Department of State. This started speculation that she would replace Jay Carney as a White House Press Secretary, but that never happened, as Josh Earnest replaced Jay Carney.

From 2015 until Obama’s end of the presidential tenure, Jen was the communications director.

After Obama, she started working for CNN as a political commentator, and appeared in several talk shows before returning to the White House in November 2020 to join the Biden-Harris transition team. A few days later, she was named the new White House press secretary for the President Biden administration.

She served in the position until 13 May 2022, the 34th White House Press Secretary. She named Karine Jean-Pierre as her replacement, who was her principal deputy during her tenure.

While serving as a press secretary, Jen tested positive for COVID-19 two times, and both times claimed that she didn’t have complications thanks to her vaccinations.

Since leaving the White House, Jen has joined MSNBC, and was announced as a political analyst throughout the 2022 United States elections, and for the 2024 presidential campaign.

Moreover, she will host a new show on MSNBC’s Peacock streaming service starting in 2023.

Most recently, Jen appeared in the talk show “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” and “MSNBC Decision 2022”. Furthermore, she has been a regular contributor to “RTL Direkt”, a news magazine talk show on RTL Germany.
