Who is Jatavia Shakara Johnson?

American singer and social media star Jatavia Shakara Johnson – aka JT – was born in Miami, Florida USA, on 3 December 1992, so Sagittarius is her zodiac sign. She’s perhaps only known for being one half of the hip hop duo City Girls, with the other half being Caresha Romeka Brownlee, aka Yung Miami; the two have been active in the music industry since 2017, and only gained recognition after having been featured in Drake’s 2018 single “In My Feelings”, which topped various US charts.

Education and early life

Jatavia was raised in Miami by her parents about whom she rarely talks in public, mostly because she had a rather rough childhood; she opened up about her mother in a 2019 interview, revealing that she was addicted to drugs, and that this was probably why Jatavia’s father abandoned them. Jatavia’s an only child.

She was in her early teen years when she met Yung Miami through a mutual friend, and the two girls began going to clubs and partying together when they were around 15 years old. Jatavia studied at a local high school in Miami and upon matriculating in 2011, found a job to financially support herself.

She worked a number of jobs in the following a couple of years, including being a nightclub dancer, prior to deciding to pursue music together with Yung Miami.

City Girls and Jatavia’s incarceration

Jatavia and Yung Miami chose City Girls as their duo’s name, because they were raised in two of the roughest Miami’s neighborhoods: Jatavia in Liberty City, and Yung Miami in Opa-locka.

Their debut song “Fuck Dat Nigga” was released in 2017, and was about their former boyfriends who failed to give them money when they asked for it; the duo promoted the single on their social media accounts, while they also paid DJs to play it at clubs. The song eventually became popular, and its official music video was released in January 2018, also featuring American rapper Katrina Laverne Taylor aka Trina; the song was also featured on Quality Control’s 2018 album “Control the Streets, Volume 1.”

Jatavia was arrested not long after “Fuck Dat Nigga” was released, charged with aggravated identity theft, and sentenced to spend two years behind bars; she began serving her sentence in July 2018, and was to be released on 1 March 2020.

Yung Miami continued promoting their duo while Jatavia was in jail, and she signed them to Quality Control Music. Their debut mixtape came out in May 2018, entitled “Period”, and peaked at #16 on the Heatseekers Albums chart; it was after the mixtape’s release that City Girls were featured in Drake’s hit single “In My Feelings”.

The documentary movie about the girls “Point Blank Period” was released in August 2018, while November saw the release of their debut album “Girl Code”, which featured Jacquees, Lil Baby and Cardi B; it spawned hit singles “Act Up” and “Twerk”, which both charted on Billboard Hot 100, while the album peaked at #63 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Jatavia was officially released from prison on 7 March 2020.

They recorded their second album “City on Lock” in the first half of 2020, but it was leaked in its entirety on the internet on 19 June; the girls then officially released the album at midnight, featuring Lil Baby, Lil Durk and Doja Cat. Their 2021 single “Twerkulator” became a hit on the internet, mostly because the 20 year old TikToker Layla Muhammad choreographed a dance for it.

Both girls began working on their solo careers in 2021, with Yung Miami releasing her debut single “Rap Freaks” on 29 October 2021, together with its music video. The song, described as ‘sex-positive’ is about various popular American rappers, such as Meek Mill, Diddy and Megan Thee Stallion, and Yung Miami’s revealed that it serves to ‘show love to all the rappers right now…’ It’s since become a hit, and peaked at #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Love life and boyfriend

There are two popular American rappers whom Jatavia’s been with, that her fans know about.

She started dating Miles Parks McCollum, aka Lil Yachty prior to her incarceration, and in 2019 revealed that he hadn’t sent her any letters, nor visited; after she was released, she stated that Lil Yachty had cheated on her while she was behind bars, and that they’d broken up.

In 2020, Jatavia uploaded several pictures onto her Instagram account which hinted that she was in a relationship with Symere Bysil Woods, aka Lil Uzi Vert, but neither confirmed the rumors of them dating; they went on to also tweet about each other many times, and Lil Uzi Vert confirmed the rumors on 28 February 2021.

Jatavia and Lil Uzi have since broken up twice, but have reconciled both times.

She hasn’t mentioned other men whom she’s dated, Jatavia’s in a relationship with Lil Uzi Vert as of February 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Jatavia’s friend Yung Miami has a son and daughter, born in 2013 and 2019 respectively; her son’s father was murdered in 2020, while the girl’s father is American record producer Joshua Howard Luellen, aka Southside.

Jatavia’s followed by more than six million people on Instagram, and has posted close to 100 pictures and videos onto the social media network; most of these feature her showing off her attractive body, while she also enjoys showing off the gifts she’s received from Lil Uzi Vert.

Jatavia’s favorite actresses are Angelina Jolie and Penelope Cruz, and some of her favorite movies include “Official Competition”, “On the Fringe” and “Everybody Knows”.
