Colin Murray Cowherd was born on 6 January 1964, in Aberdeen, Washington State USA His father, Charles was an optometrist, and his mother, Patricia was a British-born housewife. She came to the USA at age 14. He has an older sister named Marlene. Cowherd grew up in Grayland, Washington, and spent much of his childhood sitting on his roof, listening to baseball games on the radio. His father’s problems with alcohol were a constant threat to the marriage, which eventually ended in a divorce while Colin was still young, so he and his sister were raised by their mother. Cowherd described himself as a loner during his early years.

Matriculating from Ocosta High School in Westport in 1982, Cowherd played quarterback for the football team and was an All-Far West Conference guard for the basketball team.
