Lucas is an actor with less than 10 credits to his name, however, he’s already left a mark in the entertainment industry by playing the role of Gilbert Blythe in the series “Anne with an E”, making an appearance in 25 episodes of this family drama which began airing on Netflix in 2017.
In three seasons of the series, the fans enjoyed the story based on the novel “Anne of Green Gables” by L. M. Montgomery, about a young orphan girl who learns how to navigate her new life after she comes to Prince Edward Island.

Lucas Jade Zumann hails from Chicago, Illinois USA, and was born on 12 December 2000; he holds American nationality, and comes from a family of Jewish descent. Lucas was raised by his parents, Matthew and Jennifer Zumann, and this is all that’s known about them.
It appears that they prefer to keep their lives away from the public eye, thus Lucas respects their privacy and hasn’t shared any info about them, except their names. He also hasn’t spoken about his siblings, so many of his fans believe that he’s an only child.
In one of his interviews, Lucas said that he hadn’t planned to become an actor, and that his wish was to be a spiritual healer and meditation guide. Subsequently, after his first audition, he liked acting and continued auditioning, and as he said, through acting he’s learned more about himself.
When it comes to his educational background, he attended Hebrew school, and then in his fifth grade, he enrolled Chicago Waldorf School, for a time was homeschooled, then returned Chicago Waldorf School from where he matriculated in 2018; he didn’t go to college, but pursued his acting career.
Acting career
Lucas made his acting debut portraying Punk #2 in an episode of the series “Sense8” in 2015. In the same year, he was cast to play Milo in the movie “Sinister 2”, which was his first movie appearance. This mystery horror, also starring James Ransone, Robert Daniel Sloan, and Shannyn Sossamon was nominated for the iHorror Award for Best Horror Remake/Sequel.
Next, Lucas was seen in two episodes of the series “Chicago Fire” in 2016. He followed with his role as Henry Perry in the adventure comedy “Thrill Ride”, starring opposite Helen Sadler and Kristen Johnston. This fantasy movie followed the story of three kids who sneak into a theme park and the attractions suddenly come alive, so they fight with evil pirates, mermaids, and other monsters with the help of a sea witch. It had five award nominations and won two, including the Burbank International Film Festival Award for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy.
In the same year, Lucas was seen as Jamie Fields in the Oscar-nominated (Best Original Screenplay) comedy-drama “20th Century Women”, starring Annette Bening, Greta Gerwig, and Elle Fanning. The movie also had 72 other nominations, and won 13 awards.
From 2017 until 2019, Lucas was seen as Gilbert Blythe in “Anne with an E”, also starring Amybeth McNulty, R. H. Thomson, and Geraldine James. The series had 53 award nominations and won 24, while Lucas with the rest of the crew shares a nomination for the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) Award for Outstanding Performance – Ensemble.
Concurrently, Lucas portrayed Nathan in the 2018 romantic drama “Every Day”, and was seen as Jeff Owings in the 2019 drama “To the Stars” – it was a story set in 1960s Oklahoma, about a reclusive farmer’s daughter who forms an intimate friendship with a worldly but careless new girl, under the scrutiny of a small town. The movie had six award nominations and won two, including the OUT at the Movies Int’l LGBT Film Fest Jury Prize for Best Narrative.

Most recently, Lucas was seen as James Whitman in the 2021 mystery comedy “Dr. Bird’s Advice for Sad Poets”, in which he starred opposite Michael H. Cole and Roger Dale Floyd. Although the movie had no nominations, the audience rated this drama as ‘humorous and emotionally charged’.
Love life and girlfriend
Although in the series his character was a love interest of Anne, Lucas and the actress who portrayed this character, Amybeth McNulty, are nothing more than co-stars, despite the rumors about them being a couple in the real life.
Lucas has a girlfriend, named Shannon Sullivan who is a YouTuber – the two began dating back in 2018. Shannon seems to be very supportive, and to thank her for all the love and support, Lucas often posts their joint photos on his Instagram, with captions full of heartwarming words.
In 2019, Lucas shared a photo of the two of them with the description saying that making their joint home was the best experience in his life, thus it’s assumed that they are living together. Also, he posted a photo of their new pet, Hedginald Stuart (a hedgehog), saying that this is the newest addition to the Sullivan-Zumann family. As of late 2022, the couple is still together.
