Early life and education
Tequan Richmond was born under the zodiac sign of Scorpio on 30 October 1992, in Burlington, North Carolina USA, thus he holds American nationality, and comes from a family of African-American descent. He was raised in his hometown by his parents, father Anthony Richmond whose occupation is unknown, while his mother is famous actress Temple Poteat – Tequan is their only child. Sometime in 2001, the family moved to Los Angeles, California, and soon Tequan launched his acting career.
Although he dreamed of a career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and had no intention of becomin an actor, it seems that destiny had another plan for him. He made his acting debut aged 10, and has since then been in the entertainment industry. Tequan made his acting debut in 2002, portraying a Boy in an episode of the series “ER”, followed in 2003 by his roles as Tramelle Willis-Tombs in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, and as Tyson in “MADtv”, while in the following year, he guest-starred in “Cold Case”, before he was cast to play one of his most notable roles, as Drew Rock in “Everybody Hates Chris”. Also starring Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold, the series was broadcast from 2005 until 2009, had 51 award nominations, including three for Primetime Emmys, and won seven. Tequan made his first movie appearance portraying Andre Lee in “The Law and Mr. Lee” in 2003, and then played Ray Charles Junior (9-10 years) in the two-time Oscar-awarded biographical musical drama “Ray”, also starring Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington and Regina King. The movie had 54 award nominations and 53 wins, including two Oscars for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing, and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Jamie Foxx). In 2006, Tequan was seen starring in “The Celestine Prophecy”, and his next role came in 2013, when he was cast to play Lee in “Blue Caprice”, followed in 2016 by his role as TC in the TV movie “Ringside”. His fiancée is Tetona Jackson, also an actress; the two met on the set for the series “All Night” in 2018, and then in the following year, they co-starred in the series “Boomerang”.
It isn’t clear when the two started dating or when they became engaged, as they prefer to keep their private lives away from the media’s attention, but they confirmed their engagement. On 2 March 2021, Tequan posted on his Instagram a photo featuring the two of them hugging, and it was clear that Tetona was pregnant, and it seems that they already knew the baby’s gender, since in the description he wrote: ‘Harlie Giselle Richmond’ with a baby’s head emoji. Their daughter was born on 10 March 2021.
As of June 2022, it isn’t clear whether Tequan and Tetona are still together, but on her Instagram, there are no joint photos of the two of them, and she often posts photos featuring herself and their daughter, while on his Instagram there is only one photo of him holding their baby, posted in 2021.
