Sue Ane Lookhoff was born on 8 March 1936, in Paterson, New Jersey, USA, the daughter of Albert G. Lookhoff and his wife Grace, an operatic soprano who was of Dutch and Austrian ancestry.

After finishing high school, Sue enrolled at the University of North Texas, but then switched to full-time study at Idaho State University.

Sue returned to New York following her studies, and started working as a singer at Radio City Music Hall. She was soon able to find acting work, and made her debut in 1959 with the role of Denise Cerise in the TV series “Lux Playhouse”.

The same year she joined the cast of the TV comedy series “Bachelor Father” in the role of Kitty Marsh, co-starring John Forsythe and Sammee Tong. She appeared in 16 episodes until 1961, then continued with tremendous success into the ‘60s.

In 1964, she portrayed Madame Mijanou in the drama musical “Roustabout” with Elvis Presley in the lead role, while in 1965, she starred with Glenn Ford and Henry Fonda in the comedy-western film “The Rounders” based on the novel by Max Evans.

Rise to Stardom

Sue Ane was slowly making improvements as an actress, and in 1966 she co-starred next to Elvis Presley in the romantic-comedy film “Frankie & Johnny”. The following year, Sue Ane starred with Walter Matthau and Inger Stevens in the romantic comedy film “A Guide for the Married Man”, about a man who teaches his friend a few lessons on how to cheat on his wife without getting caught. In 1968, she starred in the action-thriller film “A Man Called Dagger”, alongside Terry Moore and Jan Murray.

She began the ‘70s with the role of Opal Ann in Gene Kelly’s directed western “The Cheyenne Social Club”, starring James Stewart, Henry Fonda and Shirley Jones.

The same year, she was chosen as the star of the comedy series “Arnie”, playing the wife, Lillian Nuvo, of the titular character, who is a high-level manager in the loading dock business. The series lasted until 1972, and earned two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, with Sue Ane winning the Golden Globe in the category for Best Supporting Actress – Television for her work on the series.

She continued her career with the co-starring role in the television mystery crime-drama movie “The Victim” (1972) and a string of one-time appearances in such TV series as “Here We Go Again” (1973), “Police Story” (1973) and “Good Heavens” (1976), before she was selected in for the part of Rosie in the TV comedy series “Grandpa Goes To Washington” (1978-1979).

Langdon finished the decade with the role of Olie Gibson in the horror crime-drama film “The Evictors”, which follows the story of a young couple who move to a secluded home in a small Louisiana town, and start being tormented by the previous owners – Vic Morrow, Michael Parks and Jessica Harper were in the lead roles.

The ‘80s and Retirement

She started the ‘80s with the part of Darlene Ridgeway in the TV comedy series “When the Whistle Blows”, and the same year appeared in the sci-fi horror-thriller film “Without Warning”, while in 1982, she had a minor role in the sci-fi comedy film “Zapped!”, about a teenager who gains telekinetic powers after a laboratory accident.

The following year she was Soap Opera Star Kathy in the comedy-crime film “The Vals”, which starred Jill Carroll, Chuck Connors and Michele Laurita. Before retiring, she appeared with Peter Fonda and Jack Elam in the romantic action-drama film “Hawken’s Breed” (1988), and featured in the Weird Al’ Yankovic-written sci-fi comedy film “UHF”, which starred Weird Al Yankovic, Victoria Jackson and Kevin McCarthy.

Her husband was an actor, best known for his appearances in the TV series “Men Into Space”, and he also worked as a theatre producer. He passed away on 27 April 2010 at 90 years of age; the two didn’t have children together.
