Who is Peri Gilpin?

Peri Kay Oldham was born in Waco, Texas USA, on 27 May 1961 – her zodiac sign is Gemini, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress and film producer, with more than 70 acting credits to her name, while she’s probably known best for her portrayal of Joanne in the comedy series “Broad City”, created by Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, who also starred in it, alongside Hannibal Burress. It follows the lives of two women from New York City, the series aired from 2014 to 2019 (Peri was a member of the cast in 2017), and won three awards, including a 2018 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Motion Design, while it was nominated for 13 other awards.

Early life and education

Peri was raised in Waco alongside her siblings Marc, Patti Jo and April, by their mother Sandra Jo Hauck who was a housewife, and their father James Franklin Oldham who was a newscaster, and was probably known better as Jim O’Brien.

Peri’s parents divorced sometime in the mid-‘60s, and her mother married Wes Gilpin in 1969; not long after this, Peri took Wes’ surname. The family lived in Dallas, Texas, and Peri was encouraged by her mother and step-father to pursue acting, with them having seen her perform in school plays; her mother died in 1997, having lost her battle against leiomyosarcoma (malignant smooth muscle tumor).

Peri practiced acting at Dallas Theater Center, and upon matriculating from Skyline High School in 1979, enrolled at the University of Texas, Austin, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983; Peri then attended the British American Drama Academy in London, England.

Peri made her debut TV series appearance in the 1988 episode “The Currency We Trade In” of the mystery crime drama “21 Jump Street”, and the following years saw her appear in an episode or two of a couple of popular series, such as the drama “Almost Grown”, the action drama “Max Monroe”, and the mystery crime drama “Matlock”.

She only gained recognition in 1998, when cast to voice Lana Lionheart, one of the lead characters in the animated family comedy “The Lionhearts”; it also starred William H. Macy and Natasha Slayton, follows the lives of MGM studios’ mascot Leo and his family, and was nominated for three awards.

Peri made her debut film appearance in the 1995 drama “Fight for Justice: The Nancy Conn Story”, and a couple of her following roles were in the 1996 thriller drama “The Secret She Carried”, the 1998 adventure family “The Jungle book: Mowgli’s Story”, and the 1999 drama “Spring Forward”.

In 2006, Peri voiced Professor Kate Corrigan in the action adventure “Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms”, directed by Phil Weinstein and Tad Stones, and which starred Ron Perlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones. Although Peri prefers not to share the details of her love life with the public, it’s still widely known that she’s today a married woman, as well as a mother. She exchanged vows with American painter Christian Vincent on 31 July 1999, in a large ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members. Their twins were born on 7 May 2004 to a surrogate mother, but nothing is known about them, as Peri and Christian prefer to keep them away from the media’s attention.

Peri hasn’t mentioned any other men whom she’s perhaps been with, so as of August 2022, she’s married to Christian Vincent, and they have twins together.
