Being a celebrity wife often means that you are only known to the public as ‘the wife’ of some famous person, however, when it comes to Laurie David, this is far from the truth; she’s one of those women who’ve built their career on their own. Her most notable work has been producing the documentary movie “An Inconvenient Truth”, which in 2007 attracted 44 award nominations, winning 33, including two Oscars for Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song, and Best Documentary, Features.
Besides her career as a producer, shes also a writer, and one of the foremost environmental activists, who has worked publicly on projects aimed at stopping climate change, and is one of the founders of the 2006 Stop Global Warming Virtual March, alongside Robert F. Kennedy Junior and Senator John McCain.
Early life and education
Laurie Ellen David was born under the zodiac sign of Aries on 22 March 1958, in Long Island, New York USA; she holds American nationality and her ethnicity is Jewish. She was raised in a middle-class family, and as she prefers to keep her parents’ lives away from the media’s attention, she hasn’t revealed information regarding their names and occupations, and it’s also unknown if she has any siblings.
Speaking of her educational background, Laurie attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 1976 enrolled at Ohio University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1979.
In the mid-‘90s, Laurie worked as a talent co-ordinator for the show “Late Night with David Letterman” in New York City, before she started her own management company, which represented comedy writers and comedians.
Later, she moved to Los Angeles, California, where she became a vice president of comedy development for a division of FOX Broadcasting, and then worked as a producer for several comedy specials for Fox Television, Showtime, Home Box Office (HBO), and Music Television (MTV).
After she gave birth to her daughters, she paused her public work, and eventually her environmentalism developed – as she said, when she started thinking about the world her children would inherit, that made her think about the all pollution around us.
Activism
Laurie published her first book in 2005, entitled “Stop Global Warming: The Solution Is You!”, which is some kind of an activist’s guide – the main topics of the book are environmental protection and education, the Greenhouse effect, and what people can do to stop global warming.
The grassroots of her campaign is her quote: ‘If everyone does one thing, they are likely to do two things, then three things. Then they are likely to influence friends and family, and that’s how you build a movement.’ Her mission was to bring the issue of climate change into mainstream popular culture, which she achieved, at first with her book, and then by producing numerous projects related to the effects of climate change.
Some of the most successful were the comedy special “Earth to America!” in 2005, “GMO OMG” in 2006, and the one already mentioned, “An Inconvenient Truth”, which brought her a nomination for Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Documentary, which she shares with Davis Guggenheim, Lawrence Bender and Scott Z. Burns.
Speaking of her awards, in 2003, Laurie was honored by the Riverkeeper organization, and the same year, she received the Los Angeles-based Children’s Nature Institute’s Leaf Award, for her commitment to the education of young children about the environment.
In 2006, she was named one of the Glamour magazine ‘Women of the Year’, and she received the Gracie Allen Award for Individual Achievement by the American Women in Radio & Television, and also the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) Award for her work against global warming.

Currently, Laurie serves as a trustee on the NRDC and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Children’s Nature Institute, while also a contributing blogger to The Huffington Post.
Laurie has no social media accounts, except her Twitter account, which has been followed by over 20,000 people, on which she mostly posts about environmental and political issues.
Marriage with Larry David and divorce
In the early ’90s, Laurie met David when he was a guest on the Letterman’ show which Laurie produced, and after a few joint dinners, the two started dating.
They tied the knot on 31 March 1993, and they have two daughters together, named Cazzie who was born in 1994, and Romy, in 1996, however, although they were one of the favorite Hollywood couples at that time, Laurie filed for divorce in 2007, citing irreconcilable differences.
Some rumors were saying that the reason for their divorce was Larry’s affair with one of the caretakers of their home, which he denied, and then in one of his interviews, he said: ‘Well, she (Laurie) thought that it would be nice to have s*x with someone she liked. She wanted to try that. And I said it’s not a good idea. Because you never wanna have sex with people you like.’ Many people thought that this was just him joking around, since he’s known for his hilarious sense of humor, but Laurie hasn’t commented further on his statement.
However, it was later confirmed that Laurie was the one who had an affair – her lover was landscaper Bart Thorpe working in their Martha’s Vineyard, whom she married in 2012.
It seems that Larry also continued with his life, and after a few years of dating, he married his girlfriend, Ashley Underwood, in October 2020.

After the divorce settlement between Laurie and Larry was finished, according to court documents, she was awarded nearly half of Larry’s net worth at that time, which was then estimated at $900 million, and he stated that it was absurd, adding: ‘It’s unseemly, I don’t have that kind of money’.
However, according to sources, as of May 2022, his net worth has been estimated at over $400 million, and Laurie has a reputed net worth of over $300 million, most of it she acquired from her ex-husband.

Lawrence Gene ‘Larry’ David is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer and director, perhaps known best as the co-creator of the popular sitcom “Seinfeld” alongside Jerry Seinfeld, and is also well-known for his series “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, which he created and starred in.
He was born on 2 July 1947, which makes him 74 years old, and is a Brooklyn, New York native, raised in a Jewish family alongside his brother Ken, by their parents Rose, a housewife, and Mortimer Julius David, a men’s clothing manufacturer.
Larry began his career in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian, and in the early ‘80s, he started writing for “Saturday Night Live” before in 1989 teaming up with Jerry Seinfeld.
The series “Seinfeld” brought him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, and during his career, he’s had over 70 award nominations, and another 11 wins.
