Early life and education

Kayla grew up in Seal Beach, California, alongside her two siblings. She showed interest in acting from an early age, and started touring with national Broadway company when she was only 12 years old, having roles in several plays including “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”

During her time there, she also studied dance, singing and acting at the Orange County Song & Dance Company in Westminster, California, which is when she was noticed by a talent agent, who asked her to audition for roles in movies and TV series.

Kayla made her TV series debut in 1999, when she appeared in an episode of the short-lived comedy “Bloodhounds, Inc”. In 2000, she had a supporting role in an episode of the critically-acclaimed mystery crime drama “Profiler”, which starred Ally Walker, Julian McMahon and A. Martinez, and was nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards.

In the same year, Kayla appeared as Maureen Sampson in three episodes of the teen comedy drama “Freaks and Geeks”.

The series was created by Paul Feig, and centered on a group of ‘nerdy’ misfit high school students from Detroit, Michigan. In 2017, she starred alongside Eva Gutowski and Shelby Rabara, in the YouTube Red sitcom “Me and My Grandma”, following a young woman who moves to Los Angeles hoping to become a star, while her grandma tags along in the journey.

Since 2019, Kayla has been playing the recurring character, Nora Truman, in the CW Network’s sci-fi drama “Roswell, New Mexico”, which stars Jeanine Mason, Nathan Parsons and Michael Vlamis. The next season of the show is set to premiere in early 2022.

Kayla made her film debut in the 2006 romantic comedy “Just My Luck”, directed by Donald Pete, and which starred Lindsay Lohan, Chris Pine and Samaire Armstrong. At the time, Kayla was starring in “The Vampire Diaries”, and her wedding attracted vast media attention, with its celebrity guests including some of the series’ stars, such as Nina Dobrev and Candice King.

In March 2019, Kayla and Tanner announced that they were expecting a baby, and on 16 July 2019, the couple welcomed their daughter, Poppy Marie.

Hobbies and interesting facts

Kayla is a very active person who loves to feel some adrenaline, and enjoys outdoor activities such as rock climbing, rappelling and whitewater rafting. She also enjoys dancing, and also was a member of her high school’s surfing team.

She likes to explore her creativity through different outlets, not only though acting, and likes painting and photography in her spare time.
