Matthew Settle spent his early years in his hometown of Hickory, where he was raised by his father, Robert Settle who was a Baptist minister and a Doctor of Theology from Temple Seminar, and his mother Joan Settle, who was a concert organist. He is the youngest of six children, with three brothers and two sisters, but their names are unknown. He holds American nationality, belongs to White Caucasian ethnic group, and is a Christian.
