Liam Cunningham was born on 2 June 1961, in East Wall, Dublin, Ireland, one of five children of Michael Cunningham and his wife Kathleen – he has three sisters and a brother.
Liam grew up in Kilmore West, and left school when he was 15 years old, but didn’t start acting until he was in his mid- 20s. Until then, Liam was an electrician in Zimbabwe, to where he moved, and for the next three years maintained electrical equipment at a safari park, and trained Zimbabwean electricians.
Once he returned to Ireland, he found himself in disbelief at how low electricians were paid and the job opportunities he had. As a result, he pursued his love for acting, enrolled into acting classes, and performed in plays at various local theatres.
