Julian Richard Morley Sands was born on 4 January 1958, in Otley, West Yorkshire, England, the son of Brenda and William Sands. He has four brothers and a sister – his brother, Quentin, was named Britain’s Sexiest Man in 1998 by ‘She’ magazine.
His parents divorced, and his mother raised the children all alone. He went to Lord Wandsworth College, Long Sutton, Hampshire, during which time he became interested in acting, and began appearing in school productions.

Career Beginnings

Continued Success
He began the ‘90s with a string of lead roles in such films as the thriller “Tennessee Waltz”, then the award-winning romantic drama “Night of the Sun”, and the horror “Arachnophobia”.
In 1991, he starred in the drama “The Wicked”, and then portrayed Yves Cloquet in the award-winning David Cronenberg film “Naked Lunch”, based on the novel by William S. Burroughs, with Peter Weller, Judy Davis and Ian Holm in the lead roles.
The following year he starred in the romantic horror-drama film “Tale of a Vampire”, based on the story by Edgar Allan Poe, and then starred in the romantic mystery film “Boxing Helena”, co-starring Sherilyn Fenn and Bill Paxton, followed by reprising the role of Warlock in the sequel “Warlock: The Armageddon”.

His career slowed down in the following years, mostly minor roles, but he returned with the part of Kotov in the award-winning historical thriller film “The Chosen” in 2016, about a secret agent of the Soviet Service sent to kill Leon Trotsky.
