Who is Joy Bryant?

American actress, model and businesswoman Joy Bryant, was born in New York City USA, on 18 October 1974, under the zodiac sign of Libra. She’s appeared in over 30 movies and TV series, and is probably still best known for her playing of Patricia in the 2006 biographical historical movie “Bobby”, written and directed by Emilio Estevez, and which starred Anthony Hopkins, Demi Moore and Sharon Stone. It tells the story of US Senator Robert F. Kennedy’s assassination on 5 June 1968, and the movie won six of its 31 award nominations.

Education and early life

Joy’s mother Joyce became pregnant with her following a sexual assault by a much older man when she was only 15 years old; Joy was then raised by her grandmother, so that Joyce could focus on her studies.

Joy was signed up for dancing lessons at the age of three, and instantly fell in love with it. She was mostly interested in her education while attending the boarding Westminster School, and has revealed that she was a bit of a ‘nerd’, as she read encyclopedias on a daily basis, and often watched documentary shows with her grandmother.

Joy matriculated in 1993, and then enrolled at Yale University on a scholarship, however, she dropped out after two years, brought on by her grandmother’s death, and because she’d lost interest in studying.

Career as a model

Joy signed a contract with Next Model Management while still attending Yale, and appeared on the cover page of the “Seventeen” magazine’s issue “Back to School”. She could then have been seen starring in commercials for many popular clothing brands, such as Tommy Hilfiger, Rocawear and Ralph Lauren.

She signed a contract with American cosmetics brand CoverGirl in 2006, and then went on to walk the catwalk for both Givenchy and Tommy Hilfiger.

Joy’s since been featured on the cover page of the magazines “Domino”, “Lonny” and “Teen Vogue”, amongst numerous others, and her pictures could also have been seen featured in the magazines “Playboy”, “Vanity Fair” and “Paper”.

Roles in movies

Joy’s debut film appearance was in the 2001 musical drama “Carmen: A Hip Hopera”, while a couple of her following roles were in 2002, in the action crime comedy “Showtime”, the biographical drama “Antwone Fisher” and the short drama “Kite”.

The year 2004 saw her play Woman at Web in the science fiction action adventure “Spider-Man 2”, which Sam Raimi directed, and which starred Alfred Molina, Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire. It follows the battle between Spiderman and Doctor Otto Octavius, and the movie won 26 of its 86 award nominations, including an Oscar win for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. The same year saw Joy play Rita Caswell in the crime thriller drama “Three Way”, and Sheila in the crime drama “Haven”.

In 2005, Joy was Jill in the mystery horror drama “The Skeleton Key”, directed by Iain Softley, and in which she starred alongside Kate Hudson and Peter Sarsgaard. It follows a hospice nurse who’s revealed something dark about the plantation home at which she’s working, and the film was nominated for five awards. A couple of Joy’s roles in the remainder of the 2000s were in the 2005 romantic drama “London”, the 2007 adventure comedy drama “The Hunting Party”, and the 2009 science fiction thriller drama “Virtuality”.

In 2012, she was cast to play Neve in the action adventure comedy “Hit and Run”, written and directed by Dax Shepard, who also starred in i, alongside Kristen Bell and Bradley Cooper. It follows protected witness Charles Bronson who’s now risking his life by driving his girlfriend to Los Angeles, California; the movie won a Golden Fleece Award for Open Roads Film.

This was also Joy’s most recent film role, as she’s since been focused on appearing solely in TV series.

Joy’s debut TV series appearance was in the 2003 episode “Missing” of the romantic drama “ER”, and she then appeared in the 2008 episode “Play’n with Fire” of the comedy drama “Entourage”, and the 2011 episodes “Keep on Truckin’” and “Sky High” of the romantic comedy drama “Love Bites”.

Between 2010 and 2015, she starred as Jasmine Trussell in the comedy drama “Parenthood”, which Jason Katims created, and which also starred Peter Krause, Lauren Graham and Dax Shepard. It follows the lives of members of the Braverman family, and the series won 15 of its 57 award nominations.

Joy could then have been seen playing Dr. Erica Kincaid in seven episodes of the 2016 mystery crime drama “Rosewood”, 10 episodes of the drama “Good Girls Revolt” in 2015 and ‘16, and the 2017 episode “Hostage Situation” of the comedy drama “Girls”.

In 2018, she portrayed Jayda Crawford in six episodes of the sports comedy drama “Ballers”, which Stephen Levinson created, and which starred Donovan W. Carter, John David Washington and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. It follows the lives of several Football Players, the series aired from 2015 to 2019, and won one of its 38 award nominations.

Joy’s since appeared in three TV series: she played Lori Foster in nine episodes of the crime comedy drama “Trinkets” in 2019 and 2020, 23 episodes of the biographical crime drama “For Life” in 2020 and 2021, and the 2022 episode “Rain Has Drops” of the romantic drama “Cherish the Day”; she’s currently shooting for the upcoming series “The Spiderwick Chronicles”.

Other credits

Joy sang the songs “The B. L. A. Z. E. Song” and “Girls’ Cali Dreams” in the 2001 musical film “Carmen: A Hip Hopera”, and three songs in three episodes of the series “Parenthood” between 2010 and 2012.

It was reported by the magazine “OK!” in October 2007 that Joy had become engaged to Dave Pope, an American stuntman who’s worked on nearly 50 movies and TV series, and is probably still best known for having performed stunts in the 2007 action mystery thriller film “The Bourne Ultimatum”, the 2010 action crime movie “The Next Three Days”, and the 2010 action adventure fantasy film “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time”. Joy and Dave met in 2006, while shooting for the comedy movie “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins”.

They married in the Hamptons, Long Island, New York State, on 28 June 2008 – Joy’s revealed that she doesn’t want to have children. The two launched their clothing line Basic Terrain in June 2014, and they are today living on Joy’s ranch in Glendale, California.

Joy hasn’t mentioned the men whom she had dated prior to meeting Dave, to whom she’s married as of October 2022, and doesn’t have children.
