Chaz was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA, on 26 October 1977 – his zodiac sign is Scorpio, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor and singer-songwriter, who’s appeared in close to 30 movies and TV series, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Stevie in the action crime movie “Set It Off”. It was directed by F. Gary Gray, starred Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Vivica A. Fox, and follows four women who are about to rob a bank in Los Angeles, California; the movie won five of the 11 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Chaz was raised in Philadelphia by his mother Cheryl Shepherd, who was a choreographer and dancer prior to quitting her job in Philadelphia’s public schools, to become Chaz’s manager; his parents divorced when he was four years old. He became interested in acting while still attending a local elementary school, and Chaz appeared in various plays performed at both the school and a local theatre. Between 1996 and 2001, he played John Hamilton in the popular family comedy drama “7th Heaven”, created by Brenda Hampton, and which starred Stephen Collins, Catherine Hicks and Jessica Biel.

In 1994, Chaz played Royce in the adventure comedy drama “A Pig’s Tale”, and gained recognition in 1996 with his appearance in the hit romantic science fiction comedy “The Nutty Professor”. It was directed by Tom Shadyac, starred Eddie Murphy, Jada Pinkett Smith and James Coburn, and follows obese professor Sherman Klump who becomes slim Buddy Love with the help of a potion; the movie won 11 awards, including an Oscar for Best Make-up (Rick Baker and David LeRoy Anderson), while it was nominated for 12 other awards.

A couple of Chaz’s following roles were in the 1996 action crime drama “Set It Off”, the 1998 science fiction “Twice the Fear”, and the 2004 drama “Woman Thou Art Loosed”.

It was 12 years later that he appeared in his next movie: the 2016 drama “Grandma’s House”. It was directed by Paul D. Hannah, starred Loretta Devine, Coco Jones and Paige Hurd, and follows a girl and her step-brothers who have to start living with their grandma; the movie won a Las Vegas Black Film Festival Award for Best Religious Film.
