Kari Samantha Wuhrer was born in Brookfield, Connecticut USA, on 28 April 1967 – her zodiac sign is Taurus, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress, singer and model, with close to 100 acting credits to her name, while she’s perhaps still known best for her portrayal of the lead character Sheriff Samantha Parker, in the 2002 action adventure comedy movie “Eight Legged Freaks”. It was written and directed by Ellory Elkayem, also starred David Arquette and Scott Terra, and follows the people who are trying to escape from gigantic venomous spiders, which have been enlarged by a strange chemical; the movie was nominated for an Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films Saturn Award for Best Horror Film.

Kari hasn’t been active in the film industry since 2018, but hasn’t officially retired.

Early life and education

Kari was raised in Brookfield alongside her three siblings, by their German-American father Andrew Wuhrer who was a car salesman and police officer, and their mother Karin (nee Noble) who was an accountant.

Kari grew up wanting to become a famous singer, and often sneaked out of her family’s house when she was a teenager, to sing at nightclubs. She was 13 when she started practicing acting at Wooster School, and was 17 when she decided to pursue acting as a career.

Upon matriculating in 1985, Kari enrolled at New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama in 1989; she also trained in acting at Columbia University, Marymount Manhattan College, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (London, England).

Roles in movies

Kari made her debut film appearance with her portrayal of Gloria in the 1986 romantic drama “Fire with Fire”, while a couple of her following roles were in the 1990 action adventure comedy “The Adventures of Ford Fairlane”, the 1991 action fantasy adventure “Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time” and the 1994 crime drama “Boulevard”.

What was perhaps Kari’s most notable performance in the ‘90s was her portrayal of Denise Kalberg in the action adventure horror “Anaconda”. It was directed by Luis Llosa, starred Jon Voight, Jennifer Lopez and Eric Stoltz, and follows a hunter who is holding the film crew of “National Geographic” hostage, and is forcing them to help him catch the world’s most dangerous snake; the movie won six of the 17 awards for which it was nominated.

Kari appeared in five movies in 2000, including the action science fiction drama “Fatal Conflict” and the action adventure comedy “G-Men from Hell”, and in 2007, she appeared in the popular crime thriller drama “The Air I Breathe”. Written and directed by Jieho Lee, it starred Brendan Fraser, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Andy Garcia, and follows the lives of a businessman, a gangster, a doctor and a pop star.

Kari has since had only a couple of movie roles, with three of her most recent having been in the 2017 animated science fiction fantasy “Vixen: The Movie” (voice role), the animated action adventure “Batman: Gotham by Gaslight” (voice role) and the crime thriller “Fiancé Killer”, both in 2018.

Roles in TV series

Kari made her debut TV series appearance in the 1991 comedy “Married… with Children”, and gained recognition in 1993, when cast to star as Robin Farr in the drama “Class of ‘96”; the series also starred Jason Gedrick and Megan Ward, and follows seven students who are attending Havenhurst College.

A couple of Kari’s other notable performances in the ‘90s were in the romantic drama “Beverly Hills, 90210”, the action crime drama “The Marshal”, and the crime drama “The Big Easy”. Between 1997 and 2000, she played the lead character Captain Maggie Beckett in the hit adventure science fiction fantasy “Sliders”. It was created by Tracy Torme and Robert K. Weiss, also starred Jerry O’Connell and Sabrina Lloyd, and follows a teenage genius and his friends while they’re travelling through parallel universes, trying to return home; the series won one of the six awards for which it was nominated.

Kari spent the 2000s focused on appearing in movies, and had only a few of TV series roles; some of these were her portrayal of Tiffany Langer in the 2002 episode “Cross-Jurisdictions” of the mystery crime drama “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, Fawn in the 2005 episode “Snapshot” of the drama “Mystery Woman”, and Nancy Sheppard in the 2008 episode “Outcast” of the action adventure drama “Stargate: Atlantis”.

Her most recent TV series role has been her voicing of Patty McCabe in the 2015 short animated action “Vixen”.

Other credits

Kari produced the 2002 romantic crime thriller movie “Spider’s Web”.

She received special thanks for the 2006 short movie “Hellraiser: Prophecy”.

Kari married her second husband, James Scura on 26 July 2003, in a large ceremony attended by many of their friends and family members; James is a film writer and producer, who’s probably known best for having co-produced the action crime adventure series “S. W. A. T.”, which has been airing since 2017.

In January 2004, Kari gave birth to their son Enzo, while their daughter Evangeline Lotus followed on 27 March 2006, while on 8 September 2008, Kari gave birth to their second daughter, Echo Luna.

Neither Kari nor James have spoken of any other people whom they might have been with, and as of January 2022, Kari’s married to her second husband James Scura, and has three children with him.

Hobbies and interesting facts

Kari is a fan of tattoos, and had her ex-husband’s name tattooed on her ankle, and a peacock feather on her shoulder, however, she’s had both removed.

Pottery is one of her favorite hobbies.

Kari is a huge cat-lover, and has three pet cats: Houdini, Monkey and Gato.

She’s a musician, and plays both the guitar and the flute.

Kari had breast implants, but removed them in 2002.

She had multiple training sessions at the gym every week during her 20s and 30s, but it appears that she no longer works out today.
