Crystal Bernard is a retired American singer-songwriter and actress, perhaps best known for portraying Helen in the sitcom “Wings” in the ‘90s. and Army in the TV show “It’s a Living” from 1985 to 1989.

Age, Early Life, and Education Background

Crystal Lynn Bernard hails from Garland, Texas, and was born under the Libra zodiac sign on 30 September 1961, which makes her 60 years old as of 2022. Her father, Dr. Jerry Wayne Bernard, was a renowned televangelist, who toured across the US preaching and singing before he later became an actor, and landed roles in the projects “The Contract,” “Lady Against the Odds,” and “Chameleons”. Her mother, Gaylon Bernard, worked as a teacher and later as a sculptor. The Texan singer was raised in a Christian household together with her siblings Scarlett, Angelique and Robyn Bernard who is now an actress. Crystal made her film debut with a minor role of Julie in the comedy “Young Doctors in Love,” which was released in 1982. In the same year, she landed a small role in the sitcom “Gimme a Break!”, before she assumed the starring role of K.C. Cunningham in 16 episodes of the acclaimed sitcom “Happy Days” in 1982 and 1983, sharing the screen with Marion Ross, Henry Winkler and Tom Bosley. Bernard later appeared in an episode of the TV show “Fantasy Island” in 1984, and subsequently played Ann Marie in the film “High School U.S.A.” In the same year, she landed the starring role in the movie “Master Ninja II”, and was later seen in the TV adventure show “The Master.”

Before the ‘90s, Crystal made a guest appearance as Amy Tompkins in the sitcom “It’s A Living” in 1985 and shared the screen with Barrie Youngfellow and Gail Edwards. She later landed the lead role of Carrie Brown in the third season of the show, which concluded in 1989.  Her next TV appearance was as Laura Clark and Liz in “Paradise” and “My Two Dads” respectively. The Texan actress also appeared in the 1987 comedy film “Slumber Party Massacre II”, together with Juliette Cummings and Kimberley McArthur.

The following decade saw Crystal focusing on TV appearances, and landing one of the biggest roles in her career as Helen C. Hackett in the series “Wings,” which premiered in 1990, and is about the members of Tom Nevers Field Airport and their issues with their colleagues and passengers. She subsequently appeared as Lisa in the 1993 film “Miracle Child”, “As Good As Dead” as Susan Warfield in 1995, and in “Siringo” in the year that followed. As the decade concluded, she appeared in 1999 films “A Face to Kill For”, and the romantic “Gideon.”

From 2000, Crystal appeared in several projects, with some of her most notable roles being in the comedy film “Jackpot”, then in movies “Single Santa Seeks Mrs Claus” and “Meet the Santa’s” which aired on Hallmark Channel in 2004 and 2005 respectively. Her last appearances before she retired were in 2007’s “Welcome to Paradise,” and “Grave Misconduct” in the year that followed.

Theatrical Appearances

Crystal launched her career in theatre after the conclusion of the series “The Monk.” 1n 1999, she performed in the play “Crimes of the Heart”, then in “Annie Get the Gun” two years later. 2005 saw her partnering with the actor, director and scriptwriter, Daniel Stern, in the creation of the play “Barbara’s Wedding,” which was performed at Falcon Theater.

Music Career and Other Works

Crystal released her debut music video for her song “I Wanna Take Forever Tonight”, before she co-wrote the single “If I Were Your Girl,” which was featured on Paula Abdul’s album “Head Over Heels.” In 1996, she released her first album, “Girl Next Door” under the River North music label, and in the same year the song “Have We Forgotten What Love Is.” Some of her other popular singles include “You’re Gonna Miss a Whole Lotta Love” and “State of Mind.” 1999 saw her releasing another album, “Don’t Touch Me There.”

She was dating the Grammy Award-winning musician and producer, Michael Shipley before she became romantically involved with the movie producer, Tony Thomas, who married Ann Souder after they broke up. She also dated the famous political broadcaster Rush Limbaugh, in the late ‘90s but they parted ways due to their busy work schedules – Rush ended up tying the knot with Kathryn Adams in 2010. Traylor afterward began dating Billy Dean, with whom she starred in “A Face to Kill”, but they broke up a year later in 2005. She then had an affair with the singer Peter Cetera whom she’d first met in 1995 when they worked on a musical project together – their relationship was also short-lived, although – there were unfounded rumors that the two had exchanged vows secretly; neither confirmed the allegation.
