Tommy Haas is a son of Brigitte and Peter Haas, who encouraged him to become a tennis player anfrom early age and became his coach. Tommy won his first youth tournament when he was five, and three years later another one in Munich. Between 11 and 13, Haas won the Austrian Championship, German Championship, and European Championship. The famous tennis guru Nick Bollettieri spotted Tommy’s talents, and offered to train him at the Bollettieri Academy in Bradenton, Florida, free of charge.
Haas competed as a junior until 1996; his best ranking in singles was the 11th place, while he reached No. 5 in doubles.
