However, Epstein resigned in October 2005 for personal reasons, but returned the following January, signing a new contract worth $1.5 million per year, adding an Executive Vice-President title to his name, and increasing his net worth to a large degree.

Theo Epstein left Boston and joined the Chicago Cubs in October 2011, signing a five-year contract worth $18.5 million, becoming a new President of Baseball Operations, which also added a substantial amount to his net worth.
