Who is Matt Prokop?

Matthew Ray ‘Matt’ Prokop was born in Victoria, Texas USA, on 29 July 1990 – his zodiac sign is Leo, and he holds American nationality. He’s a former actor with 20 credits to his name, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Jimmie Zara in the 2008 family comedy movie “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”. Directed by Kenny Ortega, it starred Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, and follows two high school friends Gabriella and Troy, who are frightened by the thought of being separated by college; the movie won eight of the 17 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Matt was raised in Victoria alongside his sister Stephanie Prokop, by their parents Deborah Terry and Anthony Prokop; not a lot is known about Matt’s family, as he respects their privacy.

He became interested in acting at a very early age, mostly because he spent a lot of time watching TV every day. Matt began appearing in theatre plays upon enrolling at a local high school, and was also very sporting, as he played soccer and basketball. He was 16 years old when he moved to Los Angeles, California, switching schools, and preparing to launch his acting career.

He made his debut TV series appearance in 2007 aged 17, with his portrayal of Troy McCann in the episode “Schooly Bully” of the popular musical family comedy “Hannah Montana”; it starred Miley Cyrus, and follows a teenage pop star who hasn’t revealed her true identity to her best friends. The series aired from 2006 to 2011, and won 20 of the 52 awards for which it was nominated, including four Primetime Emmy nominations.

Upon matriculating in 2008, Matt didn’t enroll at college, but focused on acting.

Roles in TV series

In 2007, Matt portrayed Underage Kid #3 in the episode “Cocktails” of the hit comedy “The Office”, and in 2009, he was cast to play Kyle ‘K. C.’ Covington, in the episode “Once in a Lifetime” of the crime fantasy drama “Medium”.

In 2011, we saw him play Evan in the family comedy drama “Good Luck Charlie”, created by Phil Baker and Drew Vaupen, and which starred Bridgit Mendler, Leigh-Allyn Baker and Bradley Steven Perry. It follows the Duncan family who have just welcomed their fourth child Charlie, with the parents letting their three older children take care of Charlie, as they want to return to work; the series aired from 2010 to 2014, and won four of the 30 awards for which it was nominated, including three Primetime Emmy nominations.

Matt’s only other two roles in TV series prior to leaving the film industry, were in the 2012 episode “Disneyland” of the critically acclaimed romantic comedy drama “Modern Family”, and the 2013 episode “Defective” of the mystery crime drama “Perception”.

Roles in movies

Matt made his debut film appearance with his portrayal of Zack, in the 2007 short drama “Marked”, and the same year saw him appear in the romantic drama “An Angel Named Billy”.

In 2008, Matt was cast to play Cameron Aged 15, in the sports comedy drama “Green Flash”, written and directed by Paul Nihipali Jr., and which starred David Charvet, Torrey DeVitto and Kristin Cavallari. It follows the 30-year-old man Cameron Day, who has returned to playing professional beach volleyball. A couple of Matt’s following roles were in the 2009 science fiction thriller “Reconception”, the family comedy “Furry Vengeance”, and the  comedy “Monster Heroes”, both in 2010.

In 2011, he portrayed the lead character Tyler, in the romantic comedy “Cougar Hunting”, written and directed by Robin Blazak, and which also starred Randy Wayne and Jareb Dauplaise. It follows three young adults who have come to Aspen in search of cougars: hot older women who are looking to date younger men. In the same year, Matt played J.T. in the romantic comedy “Conception”, and he also appeared in the family comedy drama “Greek Charming”.

His two final roles in movies prior to retiring from acting, were in the 2012 comedy drama “Struck by Lightning”, and the 2013 romantic horror comedy “April Apocalypse”.

In 2008, Matt sang the song “Just Wanna Be With You” in the movie “High School Musical 3: Senior Year”.

In 2015, Matt produced the comedy drama film “See You in Valhalla”, written by Brent Tarnol, directed by Jarret Tarnol, and which starred Sarah Hyland, Bret Harrison and Steve Howey. Sometime in 2010, Matt began dating Sarah Hyland, a famous American actress and singer, who’s perhaps known best for her portrayal of Haley Dunphy in the comedy series “Modern Family”.

They met on the set of the Disney Channel original movie “Geek Charming”, and in the following four years the two could’ve been seen attending most of their red carpet events together.

Sarah and Matt seemed to be happy together, however, in August 2014, Sarah broke up from Matt, and filed for a temporary restraining order against him, claiming that he was both verbally and physically abusive towards her during the entirety of their relationship; she also claimed that he had choked her, and threatened to burn down the house, kidnap her dog, and commit suicide.

Even though she was looking for a temporary restraining order, the court granted her a permanent restraining order in October 2014; it was this that caused Matt’s retirement from acting, and it’s widely believed that no-one in the film industry then wanted to work with him.

He hasn’t mentioned any other girls whom he has perhaps been with, and as of September 2021, Matt seems to be single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Matt’s quite active on Instagram, as he seems to be enjoying the attention he’s receiving from his close to 65,000 followers; he’s uploaded close to 400 pictures, the majority of which have been taken during his everyday life.

He’s physically quite active, and has a couple of training sessions at the gym each week, thus his muscular body.

Matt enjoys spending his spare time in nature, and his Instagram account is filled with pictures taken at various natural locations.

He has his own favorite actors and actresses, some of whom are Johnny Depp, the late Marlon Brando, and Natalie Portman; a couple of his favorite movies are the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Apocalypse Now” and “V for Vendetta”.

He loves to listen to music in his spare time, and his favorite performer is Ed Sheeran; Matt has even bought himself a Funko Pop toy of Ed.
