Marcell’s professional playing career began when he was signed to the Florida Marlins as an international free agent in 2008. That year, he played for the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Marlins, appearing in 63 games and finishing the season with a .279 batting average, six home runs and 43 RBIs. He spent the following season with GCL Marlins, and then began the 2010 season with the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the Class A South Atlantic League, but missed most games due to a wrist injury.
