Who is Yandy Smith?

American actress, producer and TV personality Yandy Smith-Harris was born in Harlem, New York City USA, under the Pisces zodiac sign on 19 March 1982. She’s appeared in five movies and TV series, and has seven producing credits, while she’s perhaps known best for producing and starring in the 2022 thriller movie “The Deadly Getaway”, directed by Charles Jones, and which also starred Jason Weaver and Jeff Logan. The movie’s about a robbery gone wrong, but failed to attract a lot of attention.

Education and early life

Yandy was raised in Harlem by her American businessman father Ralph Smith and American housewife mother Laura Smith; she hasn’t spoken of having siblings, and is thus believed to have none, while it’s known that she’s very close to her cousin Maurice Talton, who can be seen featured in many of Yandy’s Instagram pictures.

Yandy became interested in fashion, acting and dancing while attending a local high school; she appeared in several school plays during her four years there, took creative writing lessons, and played tennis.

She matriculated in 2000, and then enrolled at Howard University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2004; Yandy spent the following 10 years working various jobs to finically support herself, prior to launching her acting and producing career.

Yandy’s debut film role was playing Shavonne Gregg in the 2014 short crime drama “Two Days in Harlem”, written and directed by Noel Calloway, and which starred Quanda Dublin, Tamara Fay and Isa Frias; it follows the life of New York Police Department veteran Jason Farmer. The following year saw Yandy star in the music video “Jim Jones: We Fly High”.

She made her debut TV series appearance in 2018, playing Jillian Anderson in the episodes “Selfish Ways” and “Be Patience” of the drama “Illusions”, which failed to attract any attention.

Most recently, in 2021, Yandy portrayed a supporting character in the episode “Almost Enough” of the drama “BET Her Presents: The Couch”, which has been airing since 2020, stars Traci Braxton, Kellita Smith and Lela Rochon, and follows the journey of two women dealing with mental health problems.

Producing credits

Yandy produced the 2014 short movie “Happy Birthday”, written and directed by Noel Calloway, and which starred Sarah Altreche, William Best and Jabar Billingsley. It follows a girl who’s about to sacrifice herself for her sister.

In 2020, Yandy produced the popular fantasy movie “Nine Days”, written and directed by Edson Oda, and which starred Winston Duke, Zazie Beetz and Bill Skarsgard. It follows a man who’s interviewing a group of human souls, so that he could give one of them a chance to be born; the film won five of its 27 award nominations.

Also in 2020, she produced the popular biographical film “Percy Vs Goliath”, directed by Clark Johnson, and which starred Christopher Walken, Roberta Maxwell and Christina Ricci; it follows a Canadian farmer who’s combatting a company responsible for killing his crops.

Yandy has only two other producing credits: the 2020 short movie “Live” and the above mentioned thriller “The Deadly Getaway”, while she’s currently working on the upcoming short film “Mixed Girl”.

Other credits

Yandy’s appeared in a number of TV shows, and is probably known best for starring in the reality show “Love and Hip Hop: New York”, appearing in 138 episodes from 2011 through 2020. The show features a group of women trying to succeed in New York City, also starred Remy Ma and Rich Dollaz, and was nominated for a 2018 MTV Movie + TV Award for Best Reality Series/Franchise.

Yandy made a guest appearance in many shows while shooting for “Love and Hip Hop: New York”, with some of the most popular amongst these having been “Hip Hop Squares”, “Remy & Rapoose: Meet the Mackies”, and “Just Eats with Chef JJ”.

From 2019 through 2021, she starred in the reality show “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta”, which is a spin-off from “Love and Hip Hop: New York”.

Yandy’s quite open when it comes to sharing the details of her love life with her fans, and it’s known that she and American TV star, social media influencer and businessman Mendeecees Harris have been together for quite a long time now.

They starred alongside in the show “Love and Hip Hop: New York”, and Yandy often features her husband in her Instagram pictures; they exchanged vows in a large ceremony on 25 May 2015, attended by more than 500 people, and renewed their vows on 24 May 2021.

Yandy and Mendeecees have three children together: she gave birth to their son Omare Harris on 16 July 2012, their daughter Skylar followed on 26 January 2015, and they’ve recently adopted their daughter Infinity Gilyard.
