Who is Sanni McCandless?
American social media star, life coach and climber Cassandra Sanni McCandless was born in Las Vegas, Nevada USA, on 30 June 1992, making Cancer her zodiac sign. She’s perhaps known best for her Instagram account, which is currently followed by close to 400,000 people, while she’s uploaded nearly 800 pictures and videos onto the social media network. Most of Sanni’s Instagram content features her during her everyday life, whether she’s climbing rocks, spending time with her baby daughter, or doing yoga in nature.
Education and early life
Sanni and her brother Jamie McCandless were raised in Las Vegas by their parents Jay and Leslie Marijke McCandless; not a lot has been disclosed about Sanni’s family, because she respects their privacy, but it’s believed that her mother’s a housewife, and her father an entrepreneur and gym coach.
Sanni grew up being focused on her education, as she was urged by her parents to one day pursue a college degree. She studied at a local high school in Las Vegas and was into several activities during her time there, including acting with the school’s drama club, playing soccer and running track.
Sanni matriculated in 2010 and then enrolled at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2014.

Sanni’s recently become a rock climbing coach, and it’s believed that she makes over $30,000 a year.
She’s today also a life coach, working for her own company called Sanni McCandless.
Sanni’s also a bit of an actress, having appeared in the 2018 documentary sports movie “Free Solo”, directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, and which starred Sanni’s husband Alex Honnold, Tommy Caldwell and Jimmy Chin. It follows Alex as he’s trying to free solo climb El Capitan, which would make him the first person to achieve that.
Sanni also made a guest appearance in a 2020 episode of the biographical series “Motherhood Unstressed”.
When we asked Sanni how she feels about Alex getting back out on raw cliff faces when the price of death is even steeper now, Sanni said that it’s an inevitability she accepted long ago.

Her Facebook page ‘Sanni McCandless Coaching’ is today followed by close to 7,000 people, and her most recent update was on 9 May 2022; she mostly uses Facebook to write about her rock climbing experiences.
Sanni doesn’t have her own TikTok account, but she’s still quite popular on the network as numerous videos featuring her have been uploaded by other users, and all of these together have been watched more than 600,000 times.
Love life and marriage
Sanni wasn’t popular on the internet until she began dating American rock climber Alexander ‘Alex’ Honnold.
The two met during Alex’s book signing in 2015, and began dating only a couple of weeks later; they speak about their relationship in the documentary movie “Free Solo”, and how hard it was for both of them when Alex chose to climb El Capitan. They used their social media accounts to announce that they were engaged on 25 December 2019, and the two married on 13 September 2020, in a private ceremony attended by their closest friends and family members.
Sanni gave birth to their daughter on 17 February 2022, and she can be seen in many of their Instagram pictures and videos.
Sanni hasn’t mentioned other men whom she’s perhaps dated, she’s married to Alex Honnold as of March 2023, and they have a daughter together.

Sanni’s mother-in-law Dierdre Wolownick became the oldest woman to climb El Capitan at the age of 66, and broke her own record at the age of 70.
Sanni’s physically highly active, and besides rock climbing enjoys slacklining, playing various sports with her friends and working out at the gym.
She’s passionate about travelling and has gone on a number of road trips with her husband, while her dream travel destination’s Barcelona, Spain.
