Sweeting was born in the Bahamas but moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA when he was 12 to continue his tennis training. In 2006, he briefly attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he played for the Florida Gators men’s tennis team, but left after just eight months to become a professional tennis player, and made his debut in a match against Guillermo Coria which he won. Later that year, he served as a practice partner for the US Davis Cup team in the 2006 World Group Semi-final held in Moscow, Russia. He proposed in September 2013 and tied the knot later in December in Santa Susana, California. However, after just 21 months of marriage, the couple have “mutually decided” to split citing “irreconcilable differences” as grounds for their divorce, in late 2015. Since then, the 28-year old has filed for spousal support as part of their divorce settlement.
