Although born in Summit, Miles grew up in Garfield, New Jersey with his sister, and went to Garfield High School, where he not only played football but also excelled in track and field and basketball as well. While competing in track and field his accomplishments included the third-longest javelin throw in Bergen County recording 65.44meters, and was third in the triple jump event at the 2001 New Jersey Meet of Champions. Regarding his football career, he earned All-Bergen County honors and All-State honors.
