Mateen Ahmad Cleaves was born on 7 September 1977, in Flint, Michigan USA. He is a retired professional basketball player, a basketball analyst and talent manager, best known for his college basketball run with the Michigan State University Spartans. He also played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for six seasons, and all of his endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.

After showcasing his skills and talents in basketball during high school, he was heavily courted by numerous colleges. Eventually, Cleaves signed with Michigan State University and became one of the four players called “The Flintstones”. During his time with Michigan State, he became the captain of the team and helped the Spartans get the 2000 national championship. During the tournament he was named as the Most Outstanding Player, one of his many awards during his college run, including Big Ten Player of the Year, three time All-American honors, plus various record breaking achievements. He led the team in assists and steals, even achieving 20 assists during his final game as a senior.

After college, Cleaves was selected as the 14th overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 2000 NBA Draft, and he played most of the first season, but his averages were low. The following year, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings and would have less playing time. After two years, he became a free agent and then signed with the Boston Celtics, however, he wouldn’t get to play with the Celtics as he was waived before the regular season began. He then signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but played only four games. After his contract with them ended, he spent some time with the Seattle Supersonics, but was soon demoted to the NBA Developmental League or D-League. He played with the Bakersfield Jam and the Fayetteville Patriots for some time, and then played in other countries such as Greece and Russia. He returned to the NBA in 2008, playing with the Denver Nuggets in the pre-season before being waived once more, effectively ending his professional playing career.

After his playing career ended, he decided to join Fox Sports Detroit in 2010, as the Detroit Piston’s studio analyst. Since becoming part of the network, he’s expanded, creating his own record label called All Varsity Entertainment. He also manages a few music talents including Jon Connor.

For his personal life, Marteen has been married to Chanda Lane since since 2008. However, in early 2016 Cleaves was cahrged on several counts including sexual assault, assault with intent to commit criminal sexual penetration, and unlawful imprisonment. He was given a personal bond of $150,000, and the case is still being handled.
