Marko started playing the sport at a young age, mainly with the youth teams of the Serbian club Red Star Belgrade. He made his professional debut in 1996, joining the club Peristeri which is a part of the Greek Basketball League; he played two seasons in the FIBA Korac Cup and then played the next four years as a part of the EuroLeague, for Fortitudo Bologna and Virtus Bologna. In 1998, he played for the junior FR Yugoslavia national team, helping them to the gold medal during the 1998 FIBA League Europe Under-20 Championship.
Jaric then joined the 2000 NBA Draft, in which he was selected as the 30th overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers. He played a total of three seasons with the Clippers, and during his time there his net worth started to increase, meantime also playing with the FR Yugoslavia national basketball team, which won gold medals at the 2001 EuroBasket as well as the 2002 FIBA World Championship – he continued to play with the team consistently in the next few years.
