Who is Luke Benward?

Luke Benward was born in Franklin, Tennessee USA, on 12 May 1995 – his zodiac sign is Taurus, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor and a singer, perhaps known best for his roles in movies such as “How to Eat Fried Worms”, “Dumplin’” and “Cloud 9”.

Family and early life

Luke comes from a family of entertainers – his father, Aaron Benward is a singer and songwriter, while his mother, Kenda Benward worked multiple job as a part-time actress, acting coach and model. Luke’s grandfather, Jeoffrey, is a famous contemporary christian music singer. Luke has two younger sisters named Ella and Gracie.

As a child, Luke spend a lot of time on movie sets and at auditions with his mother, which got him interested in acting at an early age.

However, it wasn’t until his freshman year in high school that Luke realized he wanted acting to be his full-time career. Soon thereafter, he moved to Los Angeles, California with his family, which is where he still resides.

Roles in movies

Luke made his acting debut in the 2002 historical drama “We Were Soldiers”, based on the novel by Harold G. Moore and Joseph Lee Galloway. At the time of auditioning, Luke was only five years old and he didn’t know how to read yet, so he simply recited the pledge of allegiance, which he knew by heart. The casting directors were impressed, and gave young Luke the role of David Moore, the son of the film’s main character, Hal Moore, played by Mel Gibson.

In 2006, Luke played his first leading role, in the family comedy “How to Eat Fried Worms”, following a fifth grade boy who stands up to his bully and challenges him to a series of dares.

The film received mostly positive reviews from the critics, and Luke and his co-stars were rewarded with a Young Artist Award in the Best Young Ensemble in a Feature Film category.

Another remarkable role for Luke was in the 2008 Disney Channel movie “Minutemen”, in which he played the role of 14-year-old Charlie Tuttie, who along with his friends invented a time machine. Two years later, he appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried in the romantic drama “Dear John”, directed by Lasse Hallstrom, based on the eponymous novel by Nicholas Sparks.

In 2014, Luke starred in “Cloud 9”,  another Disney Channel movie, centered on a young and ambitious snowboarder.

In the following year, he appeared alongside Michael Krebs and David Arquette in the award-winning historical drama “Field of Lost Shoes”. In 2018, we saw Luke in the coming of age comedy “Dumplin’”, directed by Anne Fletcher and which starred Jennifer Aniston, Kristin Hahn and Trish Hofman.

In early 2021, Luke starred in the thriller drama “Wildcat”, as well as in the comedy “Playing God”. He recently finished filming his scenes for the horror thriller “Living Dead Presents: Fog City”, set to be released late in 2021.

Roles in TV series

Luke made his TV series debut in 2002, when he appeared in two pilot episodes of the sitcom “Family Affair”. His next TV series role was in the comedy drama “See Dad Run”, appearing in three episodes in 2012 and 2013.

Also in 2013, Luke played the recurring role of Beau Landry in the sitcom “Good Luck Charlie”, created by Phil Baker and Drew Vaupen, and which starred Bridgit Mendler, Legh-Allyn Baker and Bradley Steven Perry. The series aired on Disney Channel for four seasons, from 4 April 2010 to 16 February 2016, and was their first series made to appeal to entire families, not just children. It’s set in Denver, Colorado, and focused on the Duncan family, who are adjusting to the birth of their fourth child named Charlie, with each episode structured as a video diary made by Charlie’s big brother, Teddy.

Through 2013 and 2014, Luke played the role of Dillon in eight episodes of the supernatural teen drama “Ravensworld”, the first spin-off series of “Pretty Little Liars”.

In the following years, he made appearances in an episode of several other popular TV series, such as “The Goldbergs”, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and “R. L. Stine’s the Haunting Hour”.

Luke’s latest TV series role was in the last season of the sitcom “Still the King”, loosely based on the real life of the country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, who also played the leading role.

Throughout his career, Luke has also been featured in various TV commercials, for brands such as McDonald’s, Nintendo and American Express.

Career as a musician

Aside from acting, Luke also has a passion for singing. He released his debut extended play (EP) album entitled “Let Your Love Out” in January 2009, when he was still only 13 years old.

In 2012, news hit the Internet that Luke was dating his “Girl vs. Monster” co-star Olivia Holt; they dated for about a year, before ultimately breaking up. Before that, Luke was rumored to have been dating the English actress Georgie Henley, and the non-celebrity Indiah Winsome.

After starring in “Cloud 9” in 2014, rumors appeared that Luke might be romantically involved with his on-screen girlfriend Dove Cameron, but the two soon clarified that they were just good friends. It was later revealed that Dove was actually dating Ryan McCartan, who also starred in “Cloud 9”.

Luke caused a bit confusion in February 2018, when he uploaded a wedding photo featuring the actress Cristin McCleary onto his Instagram account. However, he later revealed that they were actually filming a video for the song “You Make It Easy” by Jason Aldean.

In December 2019, he was spotted with the “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter, just a few weeks after her split from the actor Levi Meaden. In January the following year, Ariel posted a photo featuring Luke onto her Instagram account, confirming that the two were dating. They’ve since been seen spending time together on numerous occasions – Ariel wished Luke happy birthday in a recent Instagram post. According to sources, the two are happy in the relationship, and have plans to marry.

Luke hasn’t been married or engaged, and doesn’t have children.

To prepare for some of his roles, Luke has studied dance with the renowned hip-hop choreographer Nick Bass, who has previously worked with famous singers such as Britney Spears and Michael Jackson.

Luke’s favorite animals are dogs, and he and his girlfriend have five called Cobey, Cash, Cleo, Chloe, and Casper.

Some of his all-time favorite movies are “Good Will Hunting”, “Kramer vs. Kramer” and “Good Morning, Vietnam”, while his favorite actors and actresses are Matt Damon, Meryl Streep and the late Robin Williams.
