Who is Luciane Buchanan?

Luciane Buchanan was born in Aotearoa, New Zealand, on 16 July 1993 – her zodiac sign is Cancer, and she holds New Zealand nationality. She’s an actress, film writer and producer, with 15 acting credits to her name, while she’s perhaps known best for her portrayal of the lead character Tripitaka, in the action adventure comedy series “The New Legends of Monkey”. It has been airing since 2018, also stars Chai Hansen and Josh Thomson, and follows a young monk and his friends who have entered the world of the Monkey King, wanting to find Buddhist scrolls of wisdom; the series has won three of the 12 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Early life and education

Luciane was raised in Aotearoa by her father Geoff Buchanan, and her mother about whom nothing’s known, as Luciane respects her privacy; because she hasn’t spoken of her siblings, it’s widely believed that Luciane’s an only child.

She became interested in acting at a very early age, but became serious about it only after she enrolled at a local high school. Luciane was a member of her school’s drama club, and played lead characters in various plays performed at the school.

She matriculated in 2011, and the same year saw her launch her acting career, with her portrayal of Cherie James in the biographical romantic film “Billy”, directed by Peter Burger, and which starred Tainui Tukiwaho, Morgana O’Reilly and Kelson Henderson. Luciane made her debut TV series appearance in 2013, with her portrayal of Aroha Nash, in the crime comedy drama “The Blue Rose”, created by Rachel Lang and James Griffin, and which starred Antonia Prebble, Siobhan Marshall and Matt Minto. It follows the office staff who are fighting for justice in a corrupt world; the series was nominated for a single award.

In 2017, Luciane starred as Jenny in the short drama “A Woman’s Right to Shoes”, written and directed by Robyn Grace, and which also starred Brooke Williams and Antonia Prebble. It follows Alice who has been abandoned by her husband, and the film won one of the five awards for which it was nominated.

In 2018, we saw Luciane play the lead character Lily, in the drama “Stray”, written and directed by Dustin Feneley, and which also starred Kieran Charnock and Joel Fili. The movie follows two strangers who have met in a cold, remote place – it won 10 of the 27 awards for which it was nominated.

Her only two other movie roles have been in the 2018 short drama “My Friend Michael Jones”, and the 2019 short drama “Views”; Luciane’s currently shooting for the upcoming short drama “Lea Tupu’anga/Mother Tongue”.

Luciane produced the 2021 drama mini-series “The Panthers”, and wrote the short film “Lea Tupu’anga/Mother Tongue” which is set to be released in the following year.
