Laverne Cox Net Worth $2 Million

Laverne Cox spent her childhood with an identical twin brother in her hometown, where she was brought up by a single mother and grandmother; her brother is M Lamar, who is known as a composer and musician. She went to the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham, where she initially studied creative writing, then switched to Dance, so then enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance. Later, she enrolled at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, to study acting.

Thus, her professional career began in 2000, when she made her debut appearance in the short video “Betty Anderson”. She was subsequently cast in the film “The Kings Of Brooklyn” in 2004, which really marked the establishment of her net worth, in the meantime appearing in various clubs and restaurants as a drag queen. In 2008, she began guest-starring in such TV series as “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, and “Bored To Death”, after which she appeared in the role of Stephanie in the 2009 film “Uncle Stephanie”, and as a hooker in the film “Bronx Paradise” in 2010, so her net worth was rising consistently.

At the beginning of the next decade, Laverne had a major role when appearig as Cinnamon in the 2011 film “Carla”, directed by Eli Hershko, then as Chantelle in “Musical Chairs”, followed in 2013 when she starred as Genesuis in Eddy Duran’s film “36 Saints”, and later that year was selected to play Sophia Burset in the TV series “Orange Is The New Black” (2013-present). This latter has certainly boosted her net worth, as it is still running today.

Her next major role came in the documentary film about herself, entitled “Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word” (2014), which she also produced, and for which she was nominated for the 2015 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Documentary, which added a considerable amount to her net worth too.

To speak further about her career, Laverne also appeared as Deathy in the 2015 film “Grandma”, starring alongside Julia Garner and Lily Tomlin, and was chosen to portray Sheena in the TV series “The Mindy Project” (2015-2017). Most recently, she featured as Cameron Wirth in the TV series “Doubt” (2017), and will appear as Amanda Jones in the film “The Trustee” set for a 2018 release, which will also increase her net worth.

Additional to her career as an actress, Cox has also become known as a producer. Her first project was the reality TV series “Transform Me” (2010), in which she was also one of the official cast, and then the previously mentioned  documentary about herself, for which she won the 2015 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Special Class Special as the Executive Producer. Most recently, she worked on the film “Free CeCe” (2016). Her net worth is certainly rising.

Speaking about her personal life, Laverne Cox is an openly transgender woman, who has been in a relationship with Jono Freedrix since 2014. Unsurprisingly she is also known as a strong advocate for LGBT rights, and in fact was the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of “Time” magazine. Laverne is still resident in New York City.
