James Joseph Harbaugh was born on 23 December 1963, in Toledo, Ohio USA of Sicilian, Polish, German and Irish descent. Jim is an American Football coach and former professional football player, known for being part of various teams in the National Football League (NFL). After playing professionally he became a coach for college football and in the NFL, before returning to coach at his alma mater. During college, he returned to Ann Arbor to join the University of Michigan Wolverines, eventually becoming the starting quarterback of the college. Harbaugh was then drafted during the 1987 NFL Draft as the 26th overall pick by the Chicago Bears. He would continue to play with the Bears until 1993, performing well and having a 53% win rate before ending his run with the team. He then signed with the Indianapolis Colts during 1994, but played little during the first year. His breakout would come in the 1995 season, achieving multiple career highs and earning him the Pro Bowl, Comeback Player of the Year and AFC Player of the Year titles. He continued to play for the team until 1998 when he was traded to the Baltimore Ravens. After playing a season with the Ravens, he then played two years with the San Diego Chargers, and would then have his final game with the team even after he became a part of the Carolina Panthers the following years.

During the latter part of his career, Harbaugh was working as an assistant coach under his father for the Western Kentucky University, before becoming the quarterback coach for the Oakland Raiders during 2002. He helped the Raiders’ run towards Super Bowl XXXVII and started to mentor and help other quarterbacks as well. He became head football coach of the University of San Diego during 2004, and helped the team set great records during 2004 to 2006. In 2007 he became the head coach of Stanford University, and helped the team improve especially during 2009 and 2010 where they would achieve high win percentages, including their first Orange Bowl, and Jim was given the Woody Hayes Coach of the Year Award for his work with Stanford.

During 2011, he was then offered a 5-year $25 million contract to become a part of the NFL again as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. He helped the team reach the play-offs for the first time in 10 years, and to the Super Bowl in 2012, the play-offs the following season, but then missing out in 2014, after which Jim decided to return to the University of Michigan where he currently coaches.

For his personal life, Jim was married to Miah(1996-2006), with whom he has two sons and a daughter, and has been married Sarah Feierborn since 2008 – they have two daughters and a son. Harbaugh comes from a family of coaches, with his father and older brother becoming coaches of various teams – he faced the latter in the Super Bowl, coaching the Baltimore Ravens. He’s also a co-owner of Panther Racing in the IndyCar series and is said to be a big fan of the races. Aside from that, Harbaugh was known to have arrhythmia later in his life which was corrected by medical procedures.
