While at Downey, he often played against another basketball rising talent, Julian Newman. Julian’s father was the head coach of the high school team, and Jaythan and Julian often clashed.
All culminated at the 2017 NEO Camp – Julian’s team was considered favorites, but Jaytan had something else in his plans. He dominated the court and cemented his place in NEO Youth Elite mythology by going toe-to-toe with Newman. He humiliated the rising star by showing off his skills on the court, scoring threes from every position and distance, often using the step-back jump shot.

Moreover, he was pushing to the rim while being guarded by Newman, performing out-of-the-ordinary crossovers and euro steps, among other dribbles. Although Julian scored more points than Jaytan, he was still a star of the game. Until then, he was an unknown, regular high school basketball player – he gained the nickname Quiet Assassin, which earned him massive fame statewide, and he became known throughout the high school basketball community.
However, it wasn’t just the local regular people that he drew attention from, but also scouts and managers – he began receiving recruitment letters from various universities across the US.
After matriculating from high school in 2022, Jaytan committed to Daytona State College and will be available for the NBA Draft in 2025.
So far, he’s played in 23 games in the NCAA for the College Team, out of which seven games he was a starter. He averages 12.5 minutes per game, scoring four points per game. He is only in his first season at college, so he is out to improve in the coming years.
