Before becoming one of the best baseball pitchers, Jack attended Brigham Young University, from which he was drafted by the Tigers in the 1976 MLB Draft, but didn’t make a single MLB appearance until 1977 when a spot in the Tigers’ line-up was freed following the injury of Mark Fidrych. He struggled in the first two years, but from 1979 cemented his position in the Tigers’ rotation system, and became one of their best players.
