Golshifteh was the daughter of theater actor and director, Behzad Farahani; this influenced her to a large degree, and she started studying music and playing the piano when she was just five years old. She was cast as the lead in “The Pear Tree”(1998) film by Dariush Mehrjui when she was still a teenager, and this role earned her the Crystal Roc for Best Actress at the 16th Fajr International Film Festival.
