Who is Este Haim?

Este Arielle Haim was born in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California USA, on 14 March 1986 – her zodiac sign is Pisces, and she holds American nationality. She’s a singer, multi-instrumentalist and an actress, while she’s probably known best for being a member of the American rock ‘n’ roll band Haim, with the other two members being her sisters Danielle Sari, born on 16 February 1989, and Alana Mychal, born on 15 December 1991.

Early life and education

Este and her sisters were raised in San Fernando Valley by their father Mordechai ‘Moti’ Haim who was born in Israel but moved to the US, and their American mother Donna; both Mordechai and Donna were musicians, thus the girls’ interest in music. Their father played the drums and was a professional soccer player while living in Israel, while their mother competed in and won the amateur talent contest “The Gong Show”.

After Este’s sister Danielle began playing the guitar, the girls’ father decided that it would probably be best for Este to play the bass guitar, thus buying her one; they often listened to their parents’ classic rock ‘n’ roll recordings, which was how they fell in love with the genre. Este was still a teenager when the sisters founded the band Rockinhaim, and began covering hit songs at local charity events; it was in 2000 that they performed at their first rock concert, when the youngest of them wasn’t a member of the band yet.

Este attended a local high school, but was more focused on pursuing music than studying; she matriculated in 2004, and then chose not to pursue a college degree, but to try and make a name for herself in the music industry. She changed her mind two years later, when she enrolled at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from which she graduated with a BA degree in ethnomusicology in 2010.

Career prior to Haim

In 2004, Este and her sister Danielle joined the all-female pop rock group Valli Girls, and they were signed to Columbia Records; they released a couple of songs, as well as the soundtrack for the popular 2005 romantic comedy movie “The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants”. The year also saw the Valli Girls perform at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, but the sisters left the group not long after this.

Haim

It was in 2007 that the sisters formed their own band Haim, however, the following five years saw them play at local venues and not earning a lot, which made them give up on pursuing music professionally; Danielle was perhaps the most successful amongst the sisters, as she began playing the guitar and percussion for the rock band The Strokes, however, after having toured with them and later with Scarlet Fever, she realized that she preferred performing with her sisters.

Haim then played at various events, supporting the bands Kesha, the Henry Clay People and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and released their debut extended play (EP) “Forever” in February 2012. In June that year the sisters were signed to Polydor Records (UK). Haim supported Mumford & Sons in the USA in August, and then Florence and the Machine in the UK in December.

Their debut album “Days Are Gone” came out on 30 September 2013, and topped the UK charts; the same year saw Este nearly have a diabetic seizure, after she’d taken insulin because of her Type 1 diabetes, but forgot to eat afterwards.

Haim were presented with a New Musical Express (NME) Award for Best International Band in 2014, then spent the following couple of years touring around the US and Europe.

The sisters’ second album – “Something to Tell You” – was released on 7 July 2017, and the following year saw them embark on their Sister Sister Sister Tour.
