Daniel Dwayne ‘Diggy’ Simmons II was born in Queens, New York City USA, on 21 March 1995 – his zodiac sign is Aries, and he holds American nationality. He’s a rapper, singer-songwriter, model, and an actor, but who’s probably known best for being the son of the famous American rapper and producer Joseph Ward Simmons, known better as Rev. Run.
Early life, siblings and education
Diggy was raised in Queens alongside his brother Russell ‘Russy’ Simmons II by their father, and their mother Justine Simmons (nee Jones); Diggy has an adoptive sister named Miley Justine Simmons, while his sister Victoria Anne Simmons was born on 26 September 2006, but died on the same day because of the rare abdominal wall defect omphalocele.

He also has three half-siblings from his father’s former marriage with Valerie Vaughn, named Joseph ‘JoJo’ Ward Simmons Jr, Angela and Vanessa Simmons.
Diggy became interested in rap music at a quite an early age, mostly because he looked up to his father and his half-siblings. He started writing his own songs when he was 10, and was 14 when he released “The First Flight”, his debut mixtape. It was in 2009 that he started attending a private high school, and then signed a contract with Atlantic Records, while it’s believed that there were five other record labels interested in working with him.

Career as a rapper
In 2010, Diggy uploaded a video onto the internet which featured him freestyling to the Nas’ song “Made You Look”; it became a hit, and even Kanye West praised Diggy’s skill. In the same year, Diggy released his second mixtape “Airborne”, as well as his third – “Past, Present(s), Future”.
In 2011, the magazine “Billboard” named him ‘Artist to Watch 2011’, and in the summer, Diggy embarked on his first tour, together with Tyga, Lil Twist and Mindless Behavior, amongst many others. His single “Copy, Paste” was released in the same year, and peaked at #24 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. On 20 March 2012, he released his debut album “Unexpected Arrival”.
He then revealed that he was working on his new mixtape “Out of This World”, and that it was to be released in 2013, however, it still hasn’t appeared. Diggy, B.o.B and Key Wane released their single “Mama Said” on 22 December 2013, then in May 2014, Diggy released his single “My Girl”. His following song “Ain’t Bout To Do” came out on 10 February 2015, recorded in collaboration with French Montana, and on 9 April 2015, released his single “Can’t Relate”.
Most recently, on 9 November 2018, he released his second studio album “Lighten Up”.
Career as an actor
Diggy has six acting credits. In 2011, he appeared in the music video “Mindless Behavior Feat. Diggy Simmons: Mrs. Right”, and in 2013, he portrayed Blake in the drama film “The Start Up”.
The year 2016 saw him make a guest appearance in the episode “Proof of Concept” of the hit crime thriller series “StartUp”, created by Ben Ketai, and which starred Adam Brody, Edi Gathegi and Otmara Marrero. It follows a Cuban-American hacker, a Haitian-American gangster, and an American banker, who have teamed up to create a ‘darknet’; the series was nominated for a 2017 Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing – Computer Episodic Entertainment.
In 2018, Diggy played Ronnie Burdett in the episode “Bird Gets a Pass” of the drama series “The Plug”, and in 2019, he was The College Boy in the short movie “About The People”.
Since 2018, he’s been playing Doug in the popular comedy series “Grown-ish”, created by Kenya Barris and Larry Wilmore, and which starred Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson and Francia Raisa. It follows Zoey Johnson who has just started attending college – the series has been nominated for 29 awards, including a Primetime Emmy.
