Born on 2 April 1984 in Brooklyn, New York City, USA, Devale Ellis is a 39-year-old African-American actor, YouTuber, podcast host, and former American Football wide receiver. He is best recognized for his stint in sports and for his notable roles in shows like “NCIS” and “The Blacklist.” His acting career has seen success since 2013, following his sports journey from 2005 to 2007.
Early life: A Passion for the Field
Devale grew up as an only child in Brooklyn, raised by his parents, Troy and Karen Ellis. From a young age, he showed a keen interest in sports, diving into several even before starting school. He attended James Madison High School, where he shone in American Football and basketball. By his senior year, he ranked among the top ten for touchdowns and catches made by a wide receiver in the Public School Athletic League. Prior to graduating in 2002, he played in the PSAL All Star game, earning the nickname ‘Show Time’.
Ellis continued his education and sports career at Hofstra University. Here, he played alongside Marques Colston, a future New Orleans Saints wide receiver. In 2005, Ellis recorded impressive stats, finishing his college career with remarkable achievements and graduating in 2007.
Career: More than a Sportsman
Despite a commendable college performance, Devale went undrafted in the 2006 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, he joined the Detroit Lions’ practice squad in September 2006. He made brief appearances on the main roster and later signed a future contract with the Cleveland Browns at the end of 2008. However, his stint with the Browns was short-lived, leading to his retirement from the NFL in 2010. Soon after, he ventured into acting.

It took him three years to secure his first acting role, debuting in Solvan Naim’s “Full Circle” in 2013. Over the next few years, he took on various roles, including appearances in renowned TV series such as “Power” opposite Omari Hardwick and 50 Cent.
Recent Years in Entertainment
Post his appearance in “Power”, Devale took on a series of roles. 2017 saw him feature in Jon Bokenkamp’s hugely successful “The Blacklist”. In subsequent years, he landed roles in multiple shows, with his most prominent being Zac in Tyler Perry’s “Sistas”. As of 2023, fans eagerly await his appearances in “61st Street” and “The Perfect Find”.

To complement his acting journey, Devale launched a YouTube channel in 2011, now known as “The Ellises”, boasting nearly 500,000 subscribers. Along with his wife, he shares insights into their family life. Additionally, the duo hosts a podcast called “Dead Ass with Khadeen and Devale Ellis”, discussing various facets of their life.
