A Canadian actress with 70 credits to her name, who rose to prominence starring in the movies such as “Moccasin Flats: Redemption”, which brought her a Gemini Award nomination, Kaniehtiio Alexandra Jessie Horn Batt, also known as Tiio Horn, was born under the zodiac sign of Scorpio on 8 November 1986, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada into a family of Mohawk, German and Scottish descent. Besides her movie roles, Tiio is known for her numerous television roles, one of her notable being her portrayal of Tara in the series “Ghost BFF”, which brought her a nomination for the Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Performance, Web Program or Series, in 2021.

Early life, family, and education
Although born in Ottawa, she grew up on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve outside of Montreal, Canada; her father, who is a German-Scottish lawyer, whose name she hasn’t revealed, divorced her mother when Kaniehtiio was young, and she lived with her mother and older half-sister on the reserve, although she spent time with her father too, and they have a good relationship according to her posts on social media networks.
Her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, was a model and a political activist for the Kahnawake First Nation, and her half-sister Waneek – who’s assumed to be Kahn-Tineta’s daughter from her previous marriage – was a co-captain of the Canadian women’s water polo team at the Sydney Olympics, in Australia, in 2000.
Back in 1990, Kahn-Tineta and Waneek participated in the Oka Crisis, a land dispute between the town of Oka, Quebec, Canada, and a group of Mohawk people, which lasted 77 days, and Waneek was stabbed in the chest by a soldier wielding a bayonet, but luckily she survived. When Waneek was stabbed, she was holding Kaniehtiio in her arms, who was then four years old, and a photo of the incident was published on the front pages of numerous newspapers. The photo symbolized the standoff between Mohawks and the government.
From an early age, Kaniehtiio had an interest in acting, however, she followed in her half-sister’s steps and focused on swimming and water polo as a teenager.
She attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 2004, she enrolled at Dawson College, in Montreal, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts, in 2007.
Roles in movies
Kaniehtiio made her acting debut in the short movie “Might of the Starchaser” in 2004, and then two years later, she starred in another short movie “Montreal Stories: 1971” before she was cast to play Mindy in the TV movie “Abducted: Fugitive for Love”, in 2007.
In the following year, she was seen in “Too Young to Marry”, “The Colony”, and “The Terrorist Next Door”, and then she starred in “Journey to the Center of the Earth”, alongside Brendan Fraser, Anita Briem, and Josh Hutcherson, before her roles in “South of the Moon” and “24 Hour Rental Pilot”.
In 2009, Kaniehtiio portrayed Princess Evlynia in “The Wild Hunt”, and then in the same year, she was cast to play Caroline in “The Trotsky”, a comedy drama which had 16 award nominations and nine wins, with Kaniehtiio winning the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) Award Outstanding Performance – Female.

Kaniehtiio made her first television appearance in 2006, portraying Susan Oke in the TV mini-series “Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis”, and this was a significant role for her because of her mother and half-sister.
In the following year, she made an appearance in an episode of the series “Les Hauts et les de Sophie Paquin”, and three years later, she portrayed Bailey in the pilot episode of the series “Mohawk Girls” before she was cast to play Monica Bellow in “18 to Life”, a comedy drama, also starring Alain Goulem, Stacey Farber and Angela Asher.
In 2013, Kaniehtiio made a guest appearance in “Supernatural”, before her roles as Rynn in “Defiance”, and as Sasha Renner in “19-2”, in 2015, and she also starred in “Hemlock Grove” portraying Destiny Rumancek, followed by her role as Paige in “Blank Paige”.
In the two times Primetime Emmy-awarded science-fiction thriller “The Man in the High Castle”, Kaniehtiio was cast to play Gina, and she was nominated for the ACTRA Award for Outstanding Performance – Female, then her portrayal of Tannis in the series “Letterkenny” brought her Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, Comedy, in 2016.
She portrayed Nicole in the comedy drama “What Would Sal Do?”, also starring Dylan Taylor, Ryan McDonald and Jennifer Dale, before she was cast to play Sergeant-Detective Capolla in the TV mini-series “The Disappearance”, and then she was seen as Tara in “Ghost BFF”, in 2018.
Kaniehtiio’s most recent television roles were in the series “Slasher” in 2019, “Barkskins” in ‘20, and “Reservation Dogs”, in ’21.
Love life and relationships
There have been various rumors about Kaniehtiio’s love life, however, being secretive when it comes to her personal matters, she hasn’t spoken about her previous relationships.
It’s widely known that in 2019 she dated Bradley LaRocque, a man about whom nothing much is known, and sometime in 2020, Kaniehtiio started dating a man, named Konnoronhkhwa Oronhiokewáhton, with whom she has a baby boy, who was born on 26 November 2021, but hasn’t revealed their son’s name.
The two haven’t married, and it isn’t clear if they are raising their son together or not, however, on Valentine’s Day 2022, she shared a photo on her Instagram, featuring herself and the father of the boy, with the description: ‘Konnoronhkhwa Wudge. my forest dwelling bush man. #valentinesday’ with a heart emoji. On the same day last year, she posted a photo of him citing: ‘The man that made me a Mama.’
As of early 2022, it is assumed that she’s a single mom, and hasn’t been married or engaged.
