Who is Justin Briner?

Justin was born in Baltimore, Maryland USA, on 23 August 1991 – his zodiac sign is Virgo, and he holds American nationality. He’s a voice actor, film writer and director, with close to 200 acting credits to his name, while he’s probably known best for his voicing of Izuku Midoriya in the critically acclaimed animated action adventure series “My Hero Academia” (original “Boku no Hiro Akademia”); it’s been airing since 2016, and also stars Daiki Yamashita and Nobuhiko Okamoto. It follows a boy without superpowers who’s enrolled at a hero academy, and the series won 22 of the 43 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Justin was raised in Baltimore alongside his younger sister Hayley, by their parents about whom not a lot is known, as Justin respects their privacy, but it’s said that his father’s a doctor, and his mother a veterinarian.

Justin became interested in voice acting at a very early age, and enjoyed imitating the voices which he heard while watching movies and TV series with his parents. He was only five years old when he launched his career by voicing Marcello in 25 episodes of the animated action adventure series “B’T X”, created by Masami Kurumada, and which starred J. Michael Tatum, Amber Lee Connors and Caitlin Glass; it follows Teppei who’s trying to rescue his genius brother, who’s been kidnapped by half-machine half-humans. Justin reprised his role in the 1997 sequel “B’T X Neo”, and then spent the following 13 years without any roles, wanting to focus on his studies.

He attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 2009, enrolled at University of North Texas, Denton, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in theatre in 2013.

Roles in movies

Justin made his film voicing debut by lending giving voice to Kou Ichijou in the 2010 short animated comedy “The Persona 4 Comic Dub”, then in 2013, he voiced various characters in the animated fantasy comedy “Gekijouban Toaru Majutsu no Indekkusu: Endyumion no Kiseki”. It was written and directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori, starred Atsushi Abe, Sachika Misawa and Yoko Hisaka, and follows a group of students with superpowers as they’re protecting their level zero friend; the movie won two of the five awards for which it was nominated.

A couple of Justin’s following notable performances were in English versions of the 2014 animated action adventure “One Piece: 3D2Y – Overcome Ace’s Death! Luffy’s Vow to His Friends”, the 2015 animated science fiction thriller “The Empire of Corpses”, and the 2016 animated action adventure “One Piece Film: Gold”.

He voiced the main character Edward Midford in the English version of the 2017 animated fantasy “Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic”, directed by Noriyuki Abe and Stephen Hoff, and which also starred Bryn Apprill and Dawn M. Bennett. The movie follows a lord and his vampire butler as they’re investigating claims of the dead coming back to life on a luxury cruise ship, and was nominated for a Behind the Voice Actors Award for Best Male Vocal Performance in an Anime Feature Film/Special in a Supporting Role (Daniel Fredrick).

Three of Justin’s most recent film roles have been in the 2020 animated romantic drama “The Stranger by the Beach”, the action drama “Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter Part I – The Final”, and the animated action adventure “My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission” both in 2021.

Roles in TV series

Between 2010 and 2012, Justin voiced various characters in the English version of the critically acclaimed animated action adventure “One Piece”, created by Eiichiro Oda, and which stars Mayumi Tanaka, Laurent Vernin and Tony Beck. The series follows Monkey D. Luffy and his pirates as they’re searching for Pirate Gold Roger’s legendary treasure – it’s been airing since 1999, and has won three of the 13 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Justin was then invited to lend his voice to various characters in a couple of hit animated series, such as the 2014 action comedies “Dragonar Academy” and “Gonna Be the Twin-Tail!!”, and the 2015 action fantasy “Garo the Animation”.

The year 2019 heard him voice both Akatsuki and Punitsuki in the animated comedy drama “Naka no Hito Genome”, in which he starred alongside Stephen Fu and Marissa Lenti; the series follows eight game streamers who’ve awoken in the mysterious video game “Naka no Hito Genome”.

Three of Justin’s most recent roles have been in 13 episodes of the animated action adventure “Dr. Stone” between 2019 and 2021, seven episodes of the 2021 animated adventure comedy “Ranking of Kings”, and the 2022 episode “I Hate This World” of the animated fantasy comedy “Trapped in a Dating Sim: The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs”.

Justin’s won three of the seven Behind the Voice Actors Awards for which he’s been nominated: a 2017 People’s Choice Voice Acting Award for Best Vocal Ensemble in an Anime Television Series/OVA (shared with colleagues), a 2018 Anime Dub Television/OVA Voice Acting Award for Best Vocal Ensemble in an Anime Television Series/OVA, and in the same year a People’s Choice Voice Acting Award for Best Male Lead Vocal Performance in an Anime Television Series/OVA, all for “My Hero Academia”.

Love life and relationships

Justin prefers to keep details of his love life to himself, and hasn’t spoken of any women or men whom he’s perhaps been with. This is probably one of the main reasons why there are today various rumors circulating the internet, concerning both his sexual orientation and past and present relationships.

Many of his fans believe him to be gay, claiming that this is why Justin avoids talking about his love life; it’s also been said that he’s been seen spending time in public with his boyfriend, but no evidence has been provided to support these claims, nor has Justin addressed the rumors.

There are also those who believe that he’s today in a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, or is even married, and that he simply prefers to keep his other half away from the media’s attention; this hasn’t been confirmed either.

As of July 2022, Justin seems to be single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Justin’s quite active on Instagram and seems to be enjoying the attention which he’s receiving from his more than 30,000 followers; he’s uploaded nearly 30 pictures onto the network, most of which feature him during his everyday life.

He’s passionate about travelling, and has been to many Asian countries for both work and pleasure; Justin’s dream travel destination is Kyoto, Japan.
