Who is Dave Bayley?

British-American singer-songwriter Dave Bayley was born in Massachusetts, USA on 7 June 1989, making Gemini his zodiac sign. He’s probably only known for being the founder and frontman of the British indie rock ‘n’ roll band Glass Animals, active since 2010.

Education and early life

Dave was raised in Massachusetts by his parents, about whom he rarely speaks in interviews because they prefer to maintain their privacy; it’s believed that his mother’s American and father British, but this hasn’t been confirmed. The family moved to Oxford, England when Dave was 13; apparently he doesn’t have siblings, as he hasn’t spoken about having any.

Dave became interested in music while still attending St Edward’s School in Oxford, but at that time didn’t consider starting a band; he was interested in several other activities, including creative writing, acting and dancing.

He matriculated in 2007, and then enrolled at med school to study neuroscience, however, he eventually dropped out wanting to pursue a career in the music industry.

Glass Animals

Dave met his three bandmates while they were all attending St Edward’s School – Joe Seaward, Drew MacFarlane and Ed Irwin-Singer. Dave and Drew were both raised in the US prior to moving to Oxford, and after meeting the latter, Dave introduced him to Ed and Joe.

Their career was launched with the release of their first extended play (EP) “Leaflings” on 28 May 2012, while the most popular song on the EP was “Cocoa Hooves”. It was released under Kaya Kaya Records, which was a sub-label of the British independent record label XL Recordings.

They released their second EP “Black Mambo / Exxus EP” in Europe in 2013, while it was released in the USA under the name “Glass Animals EP”; they also attracted a lot of attention with the song “Woozy”, on which they collaborated with young rapper Jean Deaux from Chicago, Illinois. Glass Animals performed in the US for the first time in 2014, at the festival South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, and the same year saw them release singles “Hazey”, “Gooey” and “Pool”,

On 6 June 2014, they released their debut album “Zaba”, which included the three above mentioned songs – they performed the song “Gooey” in the shows “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and “The Late Show with David Letterman”.

In 2015, Glass Animals performed at 130 venues worldwide, and collaborated with American rapper Joey Bada$$ on the song “Lose Control”, which came out on 6 October 2015.

Their new single “Life Itself” was released on 16 May 2016 and reached #14 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart; it was followed by another single “Youth” on 25 July, and both songs were featured on Glass Animals’ second studio album “How to Be a Human Being”, released on 26 August 2016. The band continued performing around the world in the second half of 2016 and throughout 2017, however, their drummer Joe was hit by a truck while cycling in July 2018, and the band thus cancelled touring for the rest of the year.

They released their new single “Tokyo Drifting” in collaboration with American rapper and singer-songwriter Denzel Rae Don Curry on 14 November 2019, and another single “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” on 19 February 2020. Glass Animals were to release their third album “Dreamland” on 10 July 2020, however, as they became involved with the movement Black Lives Matter, they chose to postpone the album’s release, and help combat racism and police brutality which they believed was spreading around the world; “Dreamland” came out on 7 August 2020 and peaked at #2 on the UK Albums chart.

Their single “Heat Waves” topped the Australia’s Triple J Hottest 100 of 2020 chart on 23 January 2021, while their singles “Your Love (Déjà Vu)” and “Tangerine” also charted; in February, “Heat Waves” topped the ARIA Singles chart. Their single “I Don’t Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)” was featured in the video game “FIFA 22”.

The band’s YouTube channel is today subscribed to by close to three million people, and all of their music videos together have been viewed nearly to 1.6 million times.

Love life and girlfriend

Dave’s today taken, but hasn’t revealed any details concerning his partner, with his fans.

It’s believed that he and the woman in question have been living together for five years now, and that they had previously dated for two years, however, Dave hasn’t featured her in any of his Instagram pictures or videos.

As it hasn’t been confirmed that his partner’s female, some of his fans believe him to be gay, and that he’s actually living with a man; a fan has also claimed to have spotted Dave and his boyfriend spending time in public together, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

Dave’s in a long-term relationship as of March 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
