Who is Ali Siddiq?

American actor, stand-up comedian and public speaker Ali Siddiq, was born in Houston, Texas USA, on 18 October 1973, meaning that his zodiac sign is Libra. He has 10 writing and three acting credits, while he’s perhaps best known for his writing of the 2016 comedy series “This Is Not Happening”, created by Eric Abrams, Ari Shaffir and Samantha Saifer, and which starred Ari Shaffir, Roy Wood Jr. and Joey Diaz. It follows four comedians as they’re telling funny stories from their lives.

Education and early life

Ali was raised in Houston alongside his two sisters and a brother, by their parents about whom not a lot is known, because they prefer to stay away from media; they divorced when Ali was still quite young, and all the children were then raised by their mother, as well as by some of her family members.

Wanting to earn money and help his family, Ali began selling drugs when he was 14 years old; he was 19 when he was caught selling cocaine, and was sentenced to spend 15 years behind bars; Ali served six years at the Ruben M. Torres Unit, and it was during his time in prison that he fell in love with comedy, as he realized that people were laughing at his jokes.

He was released in 1997 because of his good behavior, and then began performing stand-up comedy at the Just Joking Comedy Café, going on to perform in the show “Apollo Night”, and becoming its co-host only a month later.

It’s widely believed that Ali hasn’t matriculated from high school.

Ali’s writing debut was a 2008 episode of the comedy series “Def Comedy Jam”, which shows various famous comedians as they’re performing, including Chris Rock, Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac.

He went on to write the 2012 episode “Kevin Hart/Rudy Rush/Ali” of the comedy series “BET’s Comicview”, and in 2013, Ali wrote the documentary TV special movie “Bill Bellamy’s Ladies Night Out Comedy Tour”, directed by Scott L. Montoya, and in which Ali starred alongside J. Reid and D’Lai; it follows four comedians as they’re touring around the US together.

In 2015, Ali wrote the episode “Battle” of the comedy show “This Is Not Happening” and the episode “Ali Siddiq” of the documentary series “Gotham Comedy Live”. He wrote an episode of the 2016 comedy show “The Half Hour”, and the year 2018 saw him write the comedy TV special “Ali Siddiq: It’s Bigger Than These Bars”, which features him talking about the funny moments during his incarceration.

Most recently, in 2022, Ali wrote the episode “Ali Siddiq” of the documentary series “Unprotected Sets”, as well as the TV special “The Domino Effect”.

Acting credits

Ali has three acting credits. He launched his acting career in 2019, when cast to play himself in the comedy movie “The Workout Room”, written by Kena Monique, directed by Brandon Champ Robinson and Sir-Mike Tiggs, and which starred Joe Torry, Tammy Townsend and Lil J. J. It follows a comedian who has to choose between grabbing an opportunity of a lifetime, or going to his daughter’s wedding.

In 2022, Ali appeared in the episode “I Know Why the Caged Homie Sings” of the talk-show “Pause with Sam Jay”, and the same year saw him play Bishop in the episode “Obiageli” of the comedy “Flatbush Misdemeanors”, created by Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman, who also starred in it, following two young people as they’re just surviving in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City.
