Colin Montgomerie grew up in Yorkshire, England and went to Leeds Grammar School and then to the Strathallan School in Perthshire. He later moved to the US to attend the Houston Baptist University, graduating with a degree in law and business management, but also became the university’s leading golfer, and good enough to win amateur tournaments such as the 1983 Scottish Youths Championship, the 1985 Scottish Stroke Play Championship, and the 1987 Scottish Amateur Championship.
