Buzz went to Phillips Academy from which he matriculated in 1972, after which he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated four years later and during his stint at University, Buzz contributed to the school’s newspaper, The Daily Pennsylvanian, as a sports and opinion editor. Buzz then began gaining experience by working in local newspapers such as Virginia’s Ledger-Star from 1976 until 1978, St. Paul’s Pioneer Press Dispatch from 1978-1981, then The Chicago Tribune where he worked as a investigative reporter, and also worked for The Inquirer from 1981 until 1988.

During his stint at The Inquirer, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his work on discovering corruption in the Philadelphia court system, after which Buzz started working on his book called “Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream”, which centered around the American Football team Permian High School Panthers and their lives in Odessa, Texas. The book became extremely successful, and was later adapted into the film “Friday Night Lights” (2004), and a TV series which lasted from 2006 until 2011, starring Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Aimee Teegarden. Buzz has since released several more books, including the sequel “After Friday Night Lights” which came out in 2012; then “A Prayer for the City” (1998), about the Philadelphia political scene; “Thee Nights August” (2005) which also became a bestseller; and “Shooting Stars” (2009) co-written with the Basketball All-Star player LeBron James, the sales of which certainly increased his net worth to a large degree.

His most recent engagement in journalism encompasses work as a contributing editor for Vanity Fair. He has written some of the most memorable articles, including the 11,000-word article about Bruce Jenner’s transition to Caitlyn Jenner in 2015, among many others.
